Of course they use third world garbage countries as Ethiopia and El Salvador as a comparison. Its Christmas eve here in Australia, just south of Adelaide, electricity is very very expensive, very few lights if at all, only ones i think that are popular run off batteries and solar panels.
I see maybe one house every 4 blocks. Less than a tenth of back home in Alaska.
We were once a “developing country”, too. But through, time, hard work, ingenuity and devotion, we studied, learned, researched, and persevered to make our country strong and powerful.
Not all things run an even race in the advancement of mankind. Politics, greed, corruption, and tyranny serve as the anchors to hold some civilizations back. We happened to get ours mostly right, and we enjoy the fruits of our labor.
Do...far from the guilt trip the bleeding hearts try on us, I am proud of our accomplishments and relish our good fortune.
What’s funny is, it’s Americans who are bitching about our Christmas lights, not the “developing countries” who don’t even celebrate it.
It’s easy to remember when China, Japan, and most of the Middle East were still “developing”.
I think that it is great that we live in a country that can use a lot of Christmas lights. We live where people have choices.
