Amnesty: Russian bombing of Syria may be a war crime

Russia's bombing of Syria may amount to a war crime because of the number of civilians its strikes have killed, Amnesty International said on Wednesday, presenting what it said was evidence that the air raids had violated humanitarian law.

"Russian air strikes in Syria have killed hundreds of civilians and caused massive destruction in residential areas, striking homes, a mosque and a busy market, as well as medical facilities, in...attacks that show evidence of violations of international humanitarian law," Amnesty said in a new report.

Russia started its campaign of air strikes against militants in Syria on Sept. 30, saying it wanted to help the Kremlin's main Middle East ally, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, defeat Islamic State and other militant groups.

It has repeatedly and forcefully denied targeting civilians, saying it takes great care to avoid bombing residential areas.

When asked by Reuters to comment on the Amnesty allegations, the Russian Defense Ministry said it had no immediate comment, while the Russian Foreign Ministry said it first needed to study the report before giving any official reaction.

So far, I haven’t heard a word about the war crimes list of rebels and isis and al nusra. No list of fugitives that need to be hunted down for 6 decades.

Russia drops bombs on the animals, and suddenly, its a war crime.

Go after ISIS for their war crimes. They don’t seem to care about the thousands of civilians killed by ISIS but only care when we fight back to reduce civilian deaths

Hey, if the jihadis are intermingled with the general population, there's noting you can do besides send the message: It's not good for your health to be in the vicinity of jihadis.

Folks will catch on soon enough.

"its good for us to keep informed"

We're all frenzied up with our quadrennial election cycle and and it's easy to forget about what's going on the world.

Certainly you're not going to hear anything from US media about the world unless somebody drops a nuke.

They're tied up with the election too.

“Russia's bombing of Syria may amount to a war crime because of the number of civilians its strikes have killed, Amnesty International said on Wednesday...”

You know how many “innocents” Obama has killed as collateral damage in drone strikes in the last 7 years? Where is the commensurate outrage by AI? Not even close. I even have socialist lawyer types in my extended family that are outraged by his behavior, yet we have to read about Russia's travesties. BS!

The ‘double tap’ drone strikes. Amazing silent from the lefties when Bush was called everything but a Nazi. Oh, wait, he was actually called that, too!

If Amnesty International complains about Obama's violence, he'll hit them with his Nobel Peace Prize. Putin can't do that.

Klowns.

It's SAFE to complain about the Russians.

Send some representatives to ISIS - if you can spare their heads...

I think that the Saudis are ahead of the Russians for civilians killed in Yemen - and they don’t even have heavy bombers, just lots of sorties with fighter jets.

...so ISIS sends terrorists to the West and Amnesty demands we let in more “refugees”.

Someone fights back against ISIS and Amnesty bleeds out its eyeballs.

No wonder the terrorists are winning. :)

Yeah? And what are you going to do about it, Amnesty International?
How many divisions do you have?

Precisely- and jihadis will get the message that Russia doesn’t care where they are hiding, Russia IS coming after them- their says are numbered no matter where they hide- The Jihidis started a war they can’t finish- now let them pay the piper!
