Wow!
Didn’t know about this. I’ve been listening the the audiobook on YouTube, and really liked it.
Good luck to them. It’s quite the story.
I’ve read that Kubrick originally wanted to make Childhood’s End, but someone else already owned the movie rights. Therefore, he got together with Clarke and started on a different movie which would become 2001.
Considering that it took until now to make a movie of Childhood’s End should be an indication of the difficulty.
Made a great impression on me as a young teen.
“has been reimagined” ... groan...
I read that book decades ago. To this day I use it as an example of how Satan could try to convince people that Christianity is false.
I re-read this, recently, having read it originally when I was in junior high.
I was astounded at the political naivety - the inherent presumption that the U.N.could grow to eliminate all human discord and conflict.
And then there’s the ESP stuff.
It doesn’t age well.
Hey ES! Thanks for the heads up on this! One of my favorite Clarke books. Thanks again!
Will there be a cookbook?
“V”, and what was it my kid watched....they had communicators that opened up and unscrolled the screen... i can’t remember the title...
anyway, sounds like one inspired the other.
it’s a cookbook!
It looks depressing.
Honestly, I am not expecting much out of this, so I hope I wont be too dissapointed!
It is a wonderful book. I think it could be translated into a compelling TV series, which doesn’t mean it will be. Anyone remember the made for TV version of “Brave New World?” Awful.
I’ve got this and The Expanse set up. Hopefully SciFi (I have their stupid SyFy name) will continue to do original programming and drop all the reality crap.
Thanks for the heads-up, I didn’t know about this. Football will force me to DVR this but I will be watching this miniseries.
Among the opening scenes is an announcement that the wall between the Palestinians and Israel had vanished and both sides were hugging and dancing together in celebration - have at it.
I read many of AC Clarke novels back from the late 60s forward. Never read this ones. From what I gather Clarke and Kubrick wanted to make this movie but the rights were owned by someone else. So Clarke crafted 2001 along with Kubrick as a similar.....evolution of the human race, piece. Even the Hotel room/White room was similar.
I liked 2001 the book/movie. I have now watched all 3 episodes of Childhood’s End and am not sure I like it. It’s interesting. I might read the novel. I kind of find the ultimate fate of humanity not appealing and counter to human advancements.
Just my $0.02
