Why I Almost Slapped a Fellow Theatre Patron, and What That Says About Our (Black SJW Screed)

Recently I went to see a play at an Off-­Broadway theatre that I love, a production I found remarkably profound. I was in town for only a day, and redeye jetlag fatigue or not, I was going to the show if I could find an affordable ticket. What I didn’t predict was that the show would lead to a confrontation with microaggressions and white privilege. Turns out the social conflict wasn’t just happening on the stage.

I got to the box office and asked the staff if they had any discounts. The price that they offered wasn’t low enough for me to afford that evening. (My recent playwright award check hadn’t been received yet, okay?)

don’t give away your theater tickets to anyone who has no respect for your right to enjoy a show in peace

and be wary of people who think they have the right to whoop and holler and comment loudly on whatever

because it is becoming an epidemic of entitlement to public rudeness

I got only so far with this because this woman is a part of my online playwrights group. She and a couple of others are hard-core veterans of the victomology wars. She ran into a pain in the ass theater goer - how unusual in NYC! - and turned it into typical black sturm and drang as if she was Richard Wright facing the KKK in 1925.

As a non-black person, you’ve had to completely give up going to the theater, because of black behavior. Yet I don’t see you writing some whiny, pity-party article about how you can’t even go to the theater anymore. Whites suffer at the hands of blacks far more than the reverse, in a million different ways, yet they expect us to weep for them.

I had the "pleasure" of being the Officer of the Guard at a small kaserne in West Germany when the first "Halloween" movie came out (1979). One of my assigned duties was to attend the small movie house showing of the evening to ensure the lower enlisted behaved themselves. You have never heard the like of hooting, hollering, and screaming at the screen in your life by this mostly black audience. Let's just say I received an education that evening that was unique...
