Last week, the White House released a fact sheet praising House passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) with strong bipartisan support and calling on the Senate to do the same. Today, as President Obama signs that bill into law, the White House is releasing an analysis of progress made in elementary and secondary education since the President took office and how ESSA will cement that progress. The full report is available HERE.
Every Student Succeeds Act: A Progress Report on Elementary and Secondary Education
A core element of strengthening the middle class is building stronger schools. Over the past seven years, President Obama has invested more in our schools, provided flexibility from one-size-fits-all mandates of the No Child Left Behind Act, and supported school reforms across the country. Today, as President Obama signs the Every Student Succeeds Act, he is releasing a report that summarizes the progress the countryâs schools have made since 2008, including:
Adopting higher academic standards in nearly every state, putting our schools on par with their international competitors and our children on track to graduate from high school ready for college and career.
Reaching the highest high school graduation rate on record at 81 percent, with the highest gains among students of color.
Investing billions of dollars in high-quality early education to help our youngest learners succeed.
Reaching more than halfway to the Presidentâs goal of training 100,000 excellent STEM teachers, ahead of schedule.
Expanding access to high speed Internet to 20 million more students. The legislation that President Obama will sign today, which Congress passed with strong bipartisan support, will help our schools build on this progress. Specifically, it will:
Ensure states set high standards so that children graduate high school ready for college and career...

Every student succeeds.....in becoming an indoctrinated liberal for life.
Which is totally different than the “no child left behind” act
Those students that do not apply themselves should NOT succeed. This is just more BS feel good liberalism.
Result, even dumber graduates than the current crop.
Fedd Gubb has NO business in the education business.
Here’s your Masters in World Religions...that cost you $110K that you can’t pay back,....cuz ya can’t get a job...in that stupid Major.
There are no people in the White House who could pass REAL college courses.
And thise cretins (yes, cretins) pretend to provide guidence in education?
Bwahahahahaaaaa!
Regardless that the RINO-controlled House has read the Constitution out loud at the beginnings of the last three legislative sessions, its not surprising that the corrupt legislative and executive branches are still wrongly ignoring that the states have never delegated to the feds the specific power to decide policy for INTRAstate schools.
In fact, note that Thomas Jefferson had promoted the idea of the states amending the Constitution to regulate, tax and spend for intrastate schooling purposes, indirectly indicating that the states have never done so.
The great mass of the articles on which impost is paid is foreign luxuries, purchased by those only who are rich enough to afford themselves the use of them. Their patriotism would certainly prefer its continuance and application to the great purposes of the public education, roads, rivers, canals, and such other objects of public improvement as it may be thought proper to add to the constitutional enumeration of federal powers [emphasis added]. Thomas Jefferson: 6th Annual Message, 1806.
Also note that a previous generation of state sovereignty-respecting justices had clariifed in general that Congress is prohibiting from appropriating taxes in the name of state power issues, essentially any issue that Congress cannot justify under its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers, intrastate schooling in this example.
Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States. - Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
Remember in November! Support Trump, or whatever conservative patriots elect, by also electing a new, state-sovereignty respecting Congress that will work within its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers to support the president.
Consider that a bonus to a Congress controlled by a conservative supermajority is that Congress will be able to fire state sovereignty-ignoring activist justices.
How’d you do in college? I graduated magna cum laude. How did you do? I also got a magnum cum laude . . . everyone in my class did.
I posted this because of all the righteous anger that has been directed at No Child Left Behind. This Act was passed by a Republican House and Republican Senate. I thinks it makes the education situation a little better, if not much better, but still some ways to go before it’s ideal. It provides a better foundation to work out what the next steps should be.
Also, the White House press release was the closest thing to an article that I could find at that time.
Congress has no business passing this law, or anything like it. Education should be a state and local issue.
What we REALLY need is the “Education is NONE of the Federal Government’s Damned Business Act.”
Along with closing the Department of Education and the firing of all its employees - without references.
“was passed by aRepublican House and Republican Senate.”
You mean just like No Child Left Behind?
How about every student secedes?
More pablum for the unbelievers.
I agree with you that there would be benefits to education with this bill.
H O W E V E R . . .
If this bill gives the feds the power to regulate, tax or spend for INTRAstate schooling purposes, then the feds actually have to successfully propose an education amendment to the Constitution to the states before the feds can make such a law.
But the feds are so far wrongly ignoring the will of the Constitututions Article V state majority since the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to make such a law.
In other words, the corrupt feds are once again trying to unconstitutionally expand their powers.
The government has no business running schools.
How well have they run the postal service?
Welfare?
Social Security?
Anything?
So far I’m not seeing acceptable results. Look around. even the news articles I see usually have errors a nominally competent editor should have caught, if anyone is actually proofreading them these days.
A quick look at the comments section of any news article will show you what kind of illiterates our high schools are handing diplomas to lately.
I don’t expect it to change, or at least not for the better. Especially if Obama is the one doing it, I haven’t seen one thing he’s done good for this country...except sell guns...this can’t be any better than Obamacare, Iran nuke deal, illegal immigration, $19 trillion in debt...
