U.S., Japan test interceptor missile off Southern California

Tuesday's test of a Standard Missile-3 Block IIA was conducted in conjunction with Japan's ministry of defense and with the cooperation of the U.S. Navy.

The missile launched from San Nicholas Island in the Point Mugu Sea Range. The flight tested ejection of the missile's kinetic warhead but did not involve launching a target missile or an actual interception attempt.

We’re going to be needing them in months, I suspect. Needing lots and lots of interceptions.

Cool, guy that runs the Vandenburg launch list I am still on saw it around 0600.

Any recollection what Block # SM3 it was that knocked down the satellite in 2009 or thereabouts?
