Mail carrier in SC credited for saving little girl from dog attack ( Pitt Bull )
WBTV ^ | December 8, 2015 | Sarah-Blake Morgan

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Mail Carrier Mark Pizzo ... I see the dog struggling with the little girl..

It did not take Pizzo long to realize if he did not act, something terrible was about to happen.

I yelled out of my truck. When I yelled out of my truck, nothing happened. Then I heard her scream. I'll never forget the scream. The scream I will never forget for as long as I live, Pizzo said.

Pizzo told WBTV he ran towards the seven-year-old, whose head was gripped in the jaws of a neighbor's Pitt Bull.

The dog had started to pull the child away from me so I knew the dog did not want to let go. At that point I struck the dog until it let go of her...

For a second, Pizzo said the dog shifted it's attention towards him.

I was hoping that was going to happen, Pizzo said.

The ten-year postal veteran says he threw the little girl on a trampoline to get her out of harm's way. The dog, however, was not done.

The dog jumped up on the trampoline to go after her again, Pizzo said.

Finally, Pizzo and a neighbor were able to get the dog under control. The little girl was rushed to the hospital

...

5,500 mail carriers were attacked by dogs last year.

Pit bulls and Muslims are the same thing. You never know when they will turn on you. Violently.

When I was a letter carrier in Annandale VA., the only dog that ever bit me was a dachshund. I fed a couple my mail bag as I backed up to my LLV, but that was the only time I got bit.

I’m sick of people defending pitt bulls, saying they’re friendly good dogs. Same as those who defend muslim fanatics. Never know when they’ll turn on you, especially on attacking kids. Every day I read about little kids getting attacked by pitt bulls. A 5-year-old boy killed just a couple days ago by a few pitt bulls. There are quite a few in my neighborhood, and I closely guard my grandkids when they’re outside. I’ll kill the first one that threatens my grandkids.

Many, many, many years ago, when I was a teenager....I am 76 now, I witnesses a child being attacked by a dog, I’m not certain of the breed, I had a pretty good fight with the dog, finally got a choke hold on it with my legs wrapped around it and squeezed until it was stone dead....Suring, Wisconsin many moons ago.I was thanked a lot and still keep in touch with the girl.....now a grandma!!!

What a hard thing you had to do and yet what a wonderful thing!

A grandma...just think of how many lives you saved and made better. Nice.

So would I.

Kimber makes a good pepper spray gun. Be careful carrying a gun on school grounds, even on the outskirts, could be a felony.

“5,500 mail carriers were attacked by dogs last year.”

And yet not one of those dogs was shot dead by a mail carrier.

But let a little 20lb ankle biter growl on a cop raid and it will be terminated.

I had an appendectomy last Wednesday. My doctor recommended that I walk a lot in the week following. Can’t do it...just one trip around a two block radius had me fending off dogs that ran out of their yards to intimidate. One neighbor warned me to stand absolutely still or I would be attacked. WHY ARE PEOPLE LETTING DOGS LIKE THIS OFF LEASH??? A few years ago, my own leashed dog was attacked by a dog that ran out of a yard. The attacking dog’s owner stood and watched without doing anything as I screamed for help and tried to stop the attack. Finally, with a shrug, he ambled over and got his dog off. I simply don’t get it.

The reason they do it is because they aren't stopped....I would have shot the dogs...just call animal control, and in most localities they will respond. I have ZERO tolerance for out of control animals and have no problem with putting them down.
