Awesome camera. My wife is a birder and you can get shots with this camera that a dslr camera can’t even see. (Without a lens that costs and weighs several times what this camera does)

Try the Lumix DMC F270. The lens is 20-1200. 60x optical...120x digital. It is relatively compact. No tripod needed. I took 15,000 pics on a lengthy trip last year. No problems. It cost about $275 @ CostCo. Take a look at reviews. Great camera.

Thank you all for your comments and info. I've done some more looking around at cameras comparable to the Nikon P900, and am now considering Canon's PowerShot SX60. It's optical zoom is "only" 65x compared to the P900's 83x, but the wide end of the Canon lens is 21mm compared to the Nikon's 24mm. I take a lot of indoor pictures, so those extra few degrees of coverage would be useful.

If anyone has any more suggestions that I should check out that are in the P900 and SX60's price range, I would appreciate it.
