Try the Lumix DMC F270. The lens is 20-1200. 60x optical...120x digital. It is relatively compact. No tripod needed. I took 15,000 pics on a lengthy trip last year. No problems. It cost about $275 @ CostCo. Take a look at reviews. Great camera.
We have a 60 x Lumix. They both have their advantages. But the p900 8 a really great camera and you don’t have to have a tripod. It doesn’t hurt but isn’t required all the time.
