I had a 350 Camaro SS, totally tricked out with bored engine, Sig Erson cam, 12 1/2:1 pistons, tunnel ram, two 680 Holleys, drag slicks, 4:56 gear. Great car. My friend (better driver than me) was behind the wheel in a street race, flipped it at 112, destroyed it. I used the insurance $$ to get a 400 HP 454 Chevelle with the aluminum heads and 4:10 gears. Awesome. Could pin the speedometer and gas gauge at the same time :)

My friend had a sleeper 442 (bored out to about 480) with a hydraulic cam, street slicks, and just crushed everyone. It had perfect weight transfer. NO ONE ever beat him out of the gate.
