‘I lived in China for many years. The society there is basically as free as the US.’

Forced abortions?

I would say you are free as long as your interests coincide with the Chinese Communist Party interests.

If they do not, then not so much.

While Trump talks a good game, not sure he is the savior everyone thinks he is (just as Obama was not). Frankly, at this point in my life, to win my loyalty, ya gotta show me rather than tell me.

Exports (US to China): 95,377.8
Imports (China to US): 401,924.9
Total (Trade Balance): -306,547.0

When ever I see numbers like that I think:

We got their worthless crap, they got our worthless money. Who won?

The largest issue is to get China to follow its constitution.

Sounds familiar, where else is that happening?

4. If you buy a house, your family can only keep it for 99 years.

I had an interesting conversation with a Chinese student about that. I don’t think it was 99 years, there was a shorter period of time, thinking 20 years. The 99 years may be a info bleed from the Taiwan situation. The interesting thing was his EXPECTATION (and I assume others) after the lease. He expected it to be his after he kept it up and made improvements. For the government to go against this expectation will be interesting. Now the people have something to fight for, they are owners.

free as the US.

Freedom is a relative term. We may be more free in some things, they in others.

Freedom can also be measured in a historical perspective. I think the US is moving toward LESS freedom, I think China is moving toward MORE freedom at the moment.

Another historical perspective is I AM MORE FEARFUL OF MY GOVERNMENT NOW THAN I HAVE EVER BEEN IN MY LIFE.

So why would a country of a billion people need to "dump" product hear when they have a huge demand domestically?

Because the average Chinese can not pay any where near the price Americans will pay for those vehicles...

And what's funny is those cars will cost as much in the US as if they were made in the US...

Just like the Japanese cars built in the US...Even tho they cost much less to produce due to labor costs, they are still priced right up there with the American union made vehicles...

If the American Loomis fishing rod company could sell every rod it made to the Nigerian people in Niger for 5000 bucks a piece, Loomis wouldn't bother will the American market...

I was told by a few people there that it was 99 years, but did not research it for myself. It was definitely long enough to be passed on to your kids and maybe even your grandkids (for a time).

True, but I’ve been burned enough times that I am always wary, not matter how good the story sounds.

“They send manufacturing there, and SEND THE VEHICLES BACK TO AMERICA.

This is wrong.”

It is wrong, Trump is right — it is insanity.

30 man-hours to build a car?

30 man-hours for final assembly, perhaps, but a heck of a lot more putting together all the components - engine, transmission, suspension, interior, and so on.

My family owned our last American car (a Pontiac) in the Seventies. The car broke down on the way home from the dealer immediately after we bought it. It had less than a mile on the odometer. The dealer refused to do anything to fix the car and my parents sued. It eventually came out after months in litigation GM had put a piece of the transmission in backwards and the dealer had to refund my parents the cost of the car plus attorneys fees.

One result of that is that no one in my family has owned an American car since that day. And I personally never will. It’s Japanese or Korean for me.
