Sie, 29, who is from Indonesia, is a fifth-year graduate student in physics and expects to graduate in fall 2017. He earned his bachelor's degree in physics at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He was a silver medalist in the 2004 International Physics Olympiad, held that year in South Korea. Since his early years, Sie also enjoyed drawing and painting, and earlier considered becoming an artist. That interest came into play when he came up with a sketch for the image that eventually became the cover for his Nature Materials article. Great for him. These are the kinds of immigrants we should encourage. I know this is totally un-pc, and I'm probably committing some kind of crime by saying this, but so often I have seen that Asians' brains are good at math and art. I noticed this throughout school.

It’s because of the amount of studying they do. It is very much part of their culture, immense pressure to do well so they study hard.
When it comes to competitive efficiency in business, being able to make fast decisions, they don’t do so well. Endless chains of approvals, it takes forever to get agreements.
