BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - A local family has filed a lawsuit to hold a Williamson County church accountable after their 3-year-old was sexually assaulted at the church.
According to the lawsuit filed Monday, a teenage volunteer at Fellowship Bible Church of Williamson County raped the child in a church bathroom on August 24, 2014.
The family of the 3-year-old had been members of the church for 12 years. They were baptized and married at the church and saw the church as a second home.
On the day the sexual assault took place, the parents dropped off their two children at the Childrenâs Ministry for itâs care, but while there, the 3-year-old was taken into a bathroom by a teenage volunteer and sexually assaulted, but the family didnât find out about the situation until the next weekend.
âTheir son was saying he didnât want to go back to church.â said Kathryn Barnett of Morgan & Morgan, the firm representing the family. She added thatâs when the parents asked more questions and found out what happened.
According to Barnett, the family reached out to the church to let them know what their child had told them to get to the bottom of the situation, and at first, the church denied that it happened, stating the child was making it up.

These things happen all the time in mosques around the world, but with one incident of sexual abuse in a church, it becomes a big media story.
It is because of possibilities like this that my church started performing background checks on all children’s workers several years ago.
Lawsuit? Would be the least of the church’s problems if that were my son.
Does the article mention the teenager and if he’s in jail or not?
Oh, and it’s called RAPE!
He would hope he was if it were my kid.
The background checks help with the insurers, but they are largely ineffective in protecting the children. I don’t have the numbers handy, but well over 90% of the offenders pass the check - they have no prior record.
The reaction of this church (denial, followed by attempts to get the parents to not prosecute) is not unusual, and the church probably does need to have a court-administered attitude adjustment.
Damn Catholics! Oh wait....

I hope this isnt another Duggar(sp?) case where the parents knew this kid was a perv, but decided to just “pray on it” while letting the dumb bastard be around young kids.
Most people here take their kids to a church and not a mosque. Most people here would like to think their kids are safe in God’s House.
Nothing muzzies do to their kids should surprise you.
“It is because of possibilities like this that my church started performing background checks on all childrenâs workers several years ago.”
Well here in lies a problem, the person who did it was a child too. How would one know if that child who is helping out could be a problem? Not like a 13 year old will be on a sex offender registry.
True, and as another FReeper pointed out, most child molesters don’t have a record and those that do will avoid places where a background check is performed.
I don’t know what’s worse - if the allegation is real or if it’s a McMartin preschool situation:

That’s why I’m not going to get on the “kill the teen rapist” bandwagon.
If he’s truly a rapist, then yeah, I hope he gets what’s coming to him and then some.
If the 3-year-old wasn’t really raped and it turns out to be a severe misunderstanding, then some lives will be ruined for absolutely nothing.
I no this isn’t real life but I saw an episode where a kid blamed some one totally different from the person that molested them because they were to scared to name the molester.
The church should of called the police in to investigate as soon as there was a allegation and not say word one whether it happened or did not happen
The teen pled guilty to sexual assault, so I don’t think we need to tread too carefully here.
Yeah, Law & Order probably did something along this line, but the McMartin case was real. This false accusation thing exploded in the 1980s and early 1990s:

I was 19 at the rime and had serval work study jobs at the university. one of them was in a day care. the last week of school . I was called on the phone by one of the women I worked with. her daughter had broken her arm and she had to go to the hospital for her daughter. she wanted me to come in for 2 hours and work with the other Male daycare worker. I was really leery of working alone with the other guy because of the accusations on the mc martin case. normally there were about four adults in the center and I was not concerned because I was never alone with the children and if I had to take a kid to the restroom I’m kept the door open. this day it was just me and the other guy along with 12 toddlers. I did not trust the guy and was fearful if he did anything I would be gone after because of him bye the police.. fortunately it was my paranoia but I decided not to work in daycare centers after the school year ended.
It’s a real big deal to Christians. We are not muslims.
