What an awful death for a pet! Keep your homes secure. No doggies doors. I have three little dogs and I always go outside with them. Live in the Hill Country and we have lots of wildlife including coyotes and the occasional mountain lion.
I am sure it happens more often than people realize.
Lost pets are coyote food more often than pet owners are willing to guess.
You are wise to watch over your pets closely.
We live in coyote country, on the river. We used to keep
the dog feeder in the garage. One day, I saw a coyote come
blazing out of the garage. He hightailed it away fast. We
have a cat; but she is as mean as they come. I don’t see
her sitting still while something chewed on her. She’s
usually the one doing the chewing. . and scratching, and
biting.
My dog is a Siberian Husky, and I always go with her when she goes outdoors-no matter the size of my dog, I wouldn’t have a pet door out here, or leave an unscreened door open-you can hear the coyotes howling in the woods on any given night, and I saw the fresh tracks of a mountain lion when I was hiking near the river this morning.
Wild animals learn very quickly that soft, plump pets that are clueless about predators and are running loose in yards in the country are a convenient source of fast food-in the burbs in Cali and some other states they are not even afraid of people anymore...
