I ditched my cell phone just prior to retirement and have had a landline for a few years now along with a laptop. All my kids were like huh?? I told them if they want to call-call & if I'm not home leave a message or otherwise contact me thru email, etc... Well, OF COURSE, their age group DOESN"T EMAIL, they TEXT. but it hasn't stopped us from communicating.
I took the plunge before Black Friday and purchased their cheapest tablet @ 49.99.
Snot nose techies may deride & degrade it but to me it's really nice and it came today and I've been busy setting it up & it's a real learning experience. To me, it's worth the price. I was surprised by how heavy it was. I even went & got some free apps to download my conservative talk radio shows.
Sounds like you’re having fun. Enjoy!
Depending on the phone it can also be a pain to get at the messages.
I’d call it a wonderful idea!
I have heard the el-cheapo tablets are not as secure as the brand-name more expensive ones. Apparently they have to leave stuff out or take short cuts to make them cheap.
>>>but I need one that will work with Dial-Up<<<
What is this “Dial Up” you speak of? LOL
Three things I love best, my cell phone, my Tahoe and my dogs!
MrD too of course!
“Depending on the phone it can also be a pain to get at the messages.”
I have my voicemail and text apps on my home screen.
My phone is almost four years old.
You have a smellphone?
Thank you for the link! It takes me forever to send a text with my cell phone. I now have it set up to where I can send texts through my email using my keyboard. Just tested it by sending a text to my hubby and it worked! Thanks again!
Nope. I only have what my employer provides (iPhone 6) and then it gets shut off when I come home.
Peace and quiet are beyond price; Certainly beyond the fees that cell providers charge.
Rather than always dropping their stinking cell phones in the "pond", some people now use a special phone holder (like this one) in their "rest area" to try to avoid such misfortunes:
Others have installed one of these classic, noise-free landline phones in the bathroom, because of the convenience they provide. (I understand this model is especially popular with plumbers.)
An interesting idea. Might be worth doing.
Now that’s funny!
The Kindle Fire is only $34.99 today. I know a lot of people who are buying them as gifts.
You can get the entry level Kindle Fire for $49. I’m typing on the upgraded version Kindle 8 HD, which set me back about $129 on sale.
The entry-level Kindle Fire is on sale for $35 now.
yup i remember when the kindle came out & then l8r the kindle paper white-was very tempted but held off.
i purchased this 7” amazon fire tablet 49.99. it’s nice not
being tethered to a desk & laptop anymore.
same here- i thought these types of devices were simply toys, too. with the amazon fire” tablet @ 49.99 it was such a good deal! it has 2 cameras, alarm clock, all those apps & emailing & if i had a cell phone i could syn it with that, too & along with this purchase i bought the amazon fire stick tv thingey-i have to tell you ——i always did like the sopranos & have been doing a marathon watching over the past few days......i’m in the last part of Season 6. that was some script wasn’t it? at the end of december i’m going to take the plunge & purchase amazon prime for 100$ it’s so worth it for the programming that’s available there .
