I saw the video. It was apparent that the suspect didn’t “lunge” or such. Maybe a furtive movement the dash cam didn’t catch, yes; maybe he had a knife within Teuller Drill range, yes; what was seen could be fairly construed as facing someone who was yelling at him. I’ll defer to on-the-spot police judgement for whether the first 1-4 shots were necessary - though the video is unclear enough that an investigation, or even trial, is appropriate. No surprise the video was pulled, as it clearly depicts an actual killing (a la 21st century snuff film), does cause the family distress, and indubitably attracts a whole boatload of idiotic commentary & other behavior. At least we did get a chance (however short) to see it (though I’m sure it was copied and is now circulating), and can discern that while the first few shots were arguably proper, the remainder of 16 were clearly not.
So what’s the temperature in Chicago this morning? 451?
Charging this as first degree murder is a political, not a legal decision.
