His movies were liked, his tv series ‘Evening Shade’ was watchable in its very short season. After Lonni came out with her book, Reynolds was holding on to his pedestal by his fingertips. He was ‘hot stuff, baby’ when he appeared in the centerfold pic eons ago Sad to see the state he’s in these days.
From playing an Indian on “Gunsmoke” to his career peaking with “Deliverance” he had a wild career. He was a favorite guest of Johnny Carson who once kidded him about “the lost episodes of Dan August”.
I am sure that my body in 1977 was much more attractive than it is now.
None of us age well. It’s just we don’t see these “stars” that often. When we do our mind has to do gymnastics to recognize them.
It’s not sad. It’s just life.
I haven’t seen all of Burt’s movies, but I did like:
Deliverance (a classic)
Best Friends (the two sets of parents and Ron Silver as Larry the producer were hilarious)
Sharky’s Machine (great jazz soundtrack)
Paternity
Rough Cut (loved David Niven)
He and Sally Field should have found a good dramatic movie to make together back in their heyday.
