Army Spc. Michael Sharkey was stationed in Hawaii when he learned that a pair of ex-cons had broken into his New Port Richey, Florida, home and claimed it as their own.
By the time Sharkey was able to return home, Julio Ortiz and Fatima Cardosa had already changed all of the locks and established residency with his address.
âThey are criminals,â the soldier told local news affiliate WFLA. âI am serving my country, and they have more rights to my home than I do.â
Legally, there was nothing Skarkey could do.
But bikers donât always care as much about the law as they do vigilante justice.

The police could do nothing?
WTF? How about kicking in your own door and cutting down the scum invading your home?
I do not see a peaceful end to such a home invasion.
Invasion of Europe news….
We mentioned recently that it appears from some photos that the invaders of Europe are mostly fighting age young men.
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees does not tell us their ages, but does tell us that 75% are men. (Germans hide your daughters!)
Only 51% are Syrians, the rest are from all over the Middle East and Africa.
So, did the men abandon their women and children back home (in an unsafe country)?
Fatima was heard singing “Me and Julio down by the ER”
Some screwed up laws that allow squatters do this crap.
It can be a real nightmare to get squatters out of your home once they have set up residence. If they have a good lawyer it can cost you thousands of dollars to get them out and take months.
“My house. Get out. [ka-chunk] Now.”
This is MY HOUSE, they are TRESPASSING, ARREST THEM
How frikkin hard is that? How in the hell did our “Laws” get so frikkin screwed up that an ARMED ROBBER can Take up residency in your Home and Claim it as his OWN??
I’d get a good lawyer to get me off with a self defense plea.
Then I would sue their estate/family to clean the blood up.
It would take me about five minutes to get squatters out of my home. And I guarantee that they would never come back.
I don't follow. Isn't Skarkey's name on the title to the property (or on the lease, if a rental)?
Well, not where I live in northeast Florida. A few years ago this type of thing was tried a few times here under some 100 year old law or some such. Problem is the law does not say what they are doing is legal. Our sheriff was being interviewed by local news about it and said emphatically, “make no mistake, there is no law supporting squatting, anyone who tries this will go to jail....period”. It dropped off to zero here. So, IMO it kinda sounds to me like the cops or the states attorney’s office ain’t doin’ they’re job down there.
see my post #12, they try to use some sort of loophole in the law, the way our city and sheriff interpret it the loophole does not exist.
Here read this story....http://www.tampabay.com/news/humaninterest/why-have-squatters-been-allowed-to-take-over-this-familys-home/2171357
It still blows my mind that in some areas of the country, squatters have rights and can’t be legally removed for breaking into someone’s home.
Thanks for the link. It’s something good people should know about. Didn’t help my blood pressure though.
Just out of curiosity, if anyone knows the law on this, what if the squatters were illegal aliens, would the law still apply as is?
Funny that the News report was far different from this thread’s contention.
Funnier are the FR posters that dream up BS like this and post it...... of course with a user name Beave Meister, what more could we expect?
If those bikers hadn’t of intervened, the authorities would still be milling about, clearing their throats and shuffling their feet.
I’m coming to the conclusion that if I have a problem, they get one chance to correct it lawfully. If they fail . . .
