It's the 45th anniversary of the infamous exploding whale. Here's the 1970 video with KATU's Paul Linnman:
the guy living next door still has his 1970’s Hair , well back and sides ,not so much the top
That blowed up real good! There was nothing left but the fragrance of sardines in the air. That little boy kicking up sand, was that Brian Williams as a precocious five year old?
No, it didn't
Needless to say, it didn't go well. The blast pulverized only part of the whale, sending pieces soaring — not toward the ocean, as planned, but toward people watching from the dunes. Luckily, although a car was crushed by a large piece of flying blubber, no onlookers were hurt, unless you count being covered by a rain of smaller particles of the foul-smelling flesh. That's when most onlookers left and the Highway Division crew buried the balance of the beached whale.

The humor of the entire situation suddenly gave way to a run for survival as huge chunks of whale blubber fell everywhere. One piece caved in the roof of a car parked more than a quarter of a mile away. Remaining on the beach were several rotting whale sectors the size of condominium units.
So much for one piece of carrion allowed ...
Hehe I see what you did there.
For some reason I thought this tread my get more political.
