EU officials ratted out VW to US: reports

Frustrated European officials alerted the US to Volkswagen's emissions cheating scam after the European Commission failed to act on the intel for years, German media reported on Friday. [...]

"Officials from the EU informed the US environment group ICCT about the possible cheating on nitrogen oxide emissions," Mary Nichols, who heads the California Air Resources Board, told WirtschaftsWoche.

The weekly reported that the European Commission had been told by a Volkswagen supplier of the cheating as early as in 2011. ...

I wonder....

What are the test conditions? Did VW meet the letter of the law? My guess is that the vehicles meet the standards under the conditions prescribed in the test documents. No one but the busy bureaucrats and the strident delusional leftists hungering for the power to make others lives unbearable give a damn.

I thought it was interesting that it was NOx being targeted rather than CO2. Guess the carbon canard was failing after all?

Agree.

VW should not have caved.

Tie it up in court till the cars in question wear out (300000 miles or so).
