ATLANTA â Channel 2 Action news has learned former Altanta Braves pitcher Tommy Hanson, 29, has died.
Multiple sources told Channel 2 Sports Director Zach Klein earlier in the day Monday that Hanson was in a coma after being moved to Atlantaâs Piedmont Hospital late Monday morning due to catastrophic organ failure.
Hanson was moved to Piedmont so doctors could run a variety of tests to determine why his organs failed.
The source said Hanson's problems started early Sunday morning and Hanson was then rushed to a nearby hospital after he started having trouble breathing.

A sad BTT. 29 and sudden death through massive organ failure? How in the world does that happen? Prayers up for the family.
One way is to acquire a systemic infection and become septic.
Lord we are again reminded that this life is fleeting. Father please send Your peace that passeth all understanding to help strengthen and comfort this grieving family and all his loved ones. In Jesus name. Amen.
At age 29 and an athlete. Very sad. Infections aren’t anything to mess with.
I don't know if that's what happened to Hanson, but it did happen to Henrickson (me) and almost killed me. Back in 2003, I got a staph infection in my leg through a small break in the skin, it spread rapidly, I got septicemia (blood poisoning), I got pneumonia, and I nearly died.
I don’t know if that killed him either, but at that age 99% time it is infection or substance abuse. Not aware of any issues there with him.
(1) Prayers for his family and other loved ones.
(2) As an MLB player, he was physically exceptional. And still he died way too young. Sigh. Proof that life is fleeting.
(3) The take away: Treat every day as a blessing. EVERY DAY, try to (a) help someone, (b) learn something new, and (c) teach someone else something new.

Tommy lost a 26-year-old step-brother in 2013... this family has been hit hard.
Oh my. That is awful. Sounds like he was septic. His poor family.
RIP.
Steroid abuse related or poisoning.
The time you won your town the race
We chaired you through the market-place;
Man and boy stood cheering by,
And home we brought you shoulder-high.
Today, the road all runners come,
Shoulder-high we bring you home,
And set you at your threshold down,
Townsman of a stiller town.
Smart lad, to slip betimes away
From fields where glory does not stay,
And early though the laurel grows
It withers quicker than the rose.
Eyes the shady night has shut
Cannot see the record cut,
And silence sounds no worse than cheers
After earth has stopped the ears.
Now you will not swell the rout
Of lads that wore their honours out,
Runners whom renown outran
And the name died before the man.
So set, before its echoes fade,
The fleet foot on the sill of shade,
And hold to the low lintel up
The still-defended challenge-cup.
And round that early-laurelled head
Will flock to gaze the strengthless dead,
And find unwithered on its curls
The garland briefer than a girlâs.

Maybe an aneurism which would prevent the flow of blood to certain organs such as the kidneys.....
Thanks for posting a poem by one of the greatest poets ever!
Wow...what a shame for his family to lose him at such a young age! Prayers for his family.
When he first came up with the Braves he dominated at every level including at the Major league level in his rookie season. Then Shoulder problems started robbing him of his velocity and his career nose dived.
Despite that all reports I have ever seen describe him as a good person and one that always had time for fans.
This is a tragedy and my prayers go out to his family, friends and former teammates.
Drug overdose?
His career plummeted after 2013.
This is crazy!
Had a good friend of mine almost die from the exact same thing. He suspects he got it from un-wiped sweat at a gym on some equipment.
