I couldnt believe my eyes or ears when Ben Carson was asked about what his response would have been had he been president on 9/11. I couldnt believe his answer. He said that a better response than sending troops to Afghanistan to hunt down al Qaida would have been to make an all out effort to achieve energy independence.
Carson was only echoing what he wrote in his book 'America the Beautiful':
'After the 9/11 crisis almost everyone united behind President George W. Bush for a reason. Whether Americas ensuing steps into war in Afghanistan and Iraq will be seen as positive remains to be seen, but I canât help thinking there may have been a better way to react that would not have cost us so many lives and financial capital. I believe that if the president had seized the moment and declared that we would become petroleum independent within the next 10 years as part of our efforts to strip terrorism of its resources, that business, industry, academia, & everyone else would have been foursquare behind him, and we would have been much further ahead in the fight against terrorism than we are today.'
So we are on notice. If terrorists attack America on our soil and kill 3,000 people, a President Ben Carson would not send in the troops. And our enemies are on notice, too.
This remarkable remark should rule him out as a presidential candidate. We needed to send in troops to keep al Qaida on its heels to keep the terrorists hopping from cave to cave, lest they be caught in the open and killed.
In the days after 9/11, nobody would have predicted that there would be no more attacks of that magnitude. It was our presence in Afghanistan that stopped al Qaida from getting its act together sufficiently to pull off a sequel.
Energy independence is well and good. And it is now within our grasp. But it took the new technology of fracking and a great deal of energy conservation to achieve it. (We are using over 1 million fewer barrels of oil per day now than we did in 2000.) It took us more than a decade to get where we are. To see this as an adequate response to such an attack is absurd.
No more Ben Carson for me!
On the contrary, I don’t think he is saying a military response was wrong. I think he’s correctly saying that energy dependence was what led us into the quagmire and if we had more energy independence we could be forcing our will economically as much as militarily on the region.
Instead, we became the world’s policemen, lost a lot of fine young men in the process and gained nothing for our sacrifice.
I’m still supporting Cruz but Carson’s comments are largely correct.
Pity your childish personal attacks and bile laced hyperbolic posts never change. You do realize trying the same thing over and over while expecting different results is the definition of insanity?
Hold on. Who are you to question what I believe? If I believe that Ben Carson is a pacifist and a fraud, what gives you the right to personally attack my beliefs?
Stick to the issues.
New day, same old childish personal attacks from the Cruz choir.
Say children, how about you explain these flip flops by St Ted?
Please address this before posting any more for you knee jerk childish attack bot postings.
You inability to do anything but post childish rants based on nothing more sustainable their your own inflated sense of the infallibility of your feelings renders you irrelevant here.

Coming from you that is hilarious. You post the same template to every thread and then wonder why everyone thinks you’re an idiot.
Wipe the spittle from your chin, take a deep breath and try to understand that Carson’s pathetic and dangerous response to 9/11 tells us he would do NOTHING to keep us safe. People are right to be concerned about that.
Carson is a leftist liberal and his policies are the evidence.

Are you trying to shut down my iPhone?!?!?!?
Come on Jimbo. Instead of posting your usual childish personal attack, explain to use why we should trust St Ted of Texas given his flip flops on Immigration and Trade issues?
Huh? I’m a Trumpistadorite.
Make America Great Again!
Well, going into Afghanistan has really worked out well...
Carson seems like a strange fellow. I expect that he is a pretty good guy in life, but I do not want him as president AT ALL.
He is best suited for other things in this world.
I don’t think anyone here would argue with the energy independence aspect, but we would have been hit again and again if our only response was something that would take a decade or more to accomplish, allowing them to grow and get even bolder.
Carson’s solution to ISIS is to fight them by economic measures.
Childish personal attack daily about Carson, inability to explain their supposed candidates flip flops.
Why should we take anything you two post seriously given your inability to demonstrate even modicum of rational thought?
If you are such deep thinkers obviously you can explain St Teds flip flops?
But that right, you not thinking at all. Merely doing your job trying to smear Carson for the GOPe
Ah that is the ticket. Just scream your personal attacks louder.
And you wonder why the rest of us point at your posts and laugh.
Carson Is saying he would not have responded militarily after 9/11. His solution to ISIS is to use economic means to fight them.
Wait! This sounds like criticism of Carson. Mark Levine said you can’t do that as long as Carson is under attack by the leftist media because that would be “piling on”.
I think your response / outrage is disproportionate to the topic at hand. Perhaps a little break from the Internet is in order.
Carson sucks as a candidate. His campaign is horribly run and his positions are incoherent. Add to that the fact that he is arguably a religious nut job and a terrible amateur Egyptologist.
It’s really hard to not engage in personal attacks when talking about him because he has a defective personality.
Give into your anger, MNJohnnie. Yes, give in.
I get a sense that Carson would mount more of a defensive stance than an offensive one. Some of these moves would be long overdue IMHO. We can’t smash all Araby while leaving our doors wide open and unguarded.
