Rancher’s wife: ‘I saw them murder my husband’
The Idaho Statesman ^ | October 8th, 2015 | By Cynthia Sewell

BOISE, Idaho

The family of an Adams County rancher involved in an encounter with two sheriff’s deputies says the deputies killed him in a “completely unjustified” shooting.

Survivors of Jack Yantis, the 62-year-old who died a week ago in the darkness on U.S. 95 north of Council, say they will pursue claims against Adams County for Yantis’ death.

Donna Yantis spent her 63rd birthday Thursday at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, where she has been recovering from a heart attack she suffered after her husband was killed.

Family members have shared with the Statesman their account of what happened last Sunday night. The account is in written statements prepared with attorneys the family hired after the incident, a video statement Donna Yantis made from her Boise hospital bed, and a draft transcript the lawyers prepared of one family member’s account of what happened.

The Statesman also interviewed several family members, including Rowdy Paradis, a nephew of the couple’s who said he witnessed the shootings.

“Law enforcement should be trained to de-escalate situations,” said Rowdy Paradis. “In this case, I stood 10 feet away and watched two deputies escalate the situation and needlessly kill a man.”

Sheriff Ryan Zollman did not respond Saturday to an emailed request for comment on the family’s account or to a message left with a sheriff’s dispatcher.

Here is what the family says happened on Nov. 1:

Exactly, law enforcement should be trained to de-escalate situations. Most I suspect are, but you get those that shouldn’t be in law enforcement let alone carry weapons.

Maybe obama wants those felons he let out of prison to become policemen. He wants no one to ask about people’s past when asking for jobs.

Or maybe they cannot shoot that straight, considering that they could not kill the bull.

Well duh!!! They trained with elderly white guy targets, not angry Angus bull targets!

I HAVE thought about that and I conclude;

The old west was a different time when, yes there was still evil in America, there were also churches all over the place ... attended churches

The single woman school ma'rm was (as I understand it) a way to get quality education for the children

The single woman had no family so she could concentrate on being a teacher and if and when it was time to marry, hopefully she'd marry local and stay on as a teacher

ALL time moves swiftly and "era's" were never very long

Society's changes demanded new school positioning and the one room school had to give way to consolidation

I was schooled in Boston public schools from 1953 until 1965 when I quit and joined the army and it was a quality education ... I was taught and learned to read and LOVE reading

I had no men teachers and I didn't see a youngish woman until the eighth or ninth grade (Miss Coen ... a fox!)

Schools are different today and teachers are applying for jobs, not dedicating their lives to the education of children .... the state won't let them even if they wanted.

This thing goes on more than most know. My friend in Madison Wisconsin called a friends social worker to let him know that her friend was very depressed and she feared he could kill himself. She let him know that he owned a gun. Deputies quickly surrounded their apartment complex and went in with guns blazing. At first they went into a wrong apartment and the guy hid behind a counter in his kitchen pleading with them that it wasn’t him they were after. He really thought they were going to kill him. Then they went into her friends apartment and killed him in cold blood. He wasn’t near his gun but they felt he was a threat. My poor friend was an emotional wreak for some time afterwards. She moved and hid out afraid for her life because she was somewhat of a witness to what went on. Nothing was ever made of it though because the young man was fairly unconnected.

From the comments at the article (view thread: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3355695/posts):

Jack, Donna and Rowdy, Donna’s nephew, showed up to take care of their bull. Jack was bent down and a*second from shooting the bull when a cop grabbed him from the back and spun him around. He shot Jack in the stomach and the other cop shot him 4 times in the chest. The cops were standing behind Jack. Donna and Rowdy rushed down to Jack and the cops threw them face down on the ground and had guns to their head. Between what happened to her husband and the rough treatment, she had a massive heart attack. She was life flighted to Boise. She had another last night. This story came from Jack’s nephew and it was told to him by Rowdy. The sheriff wanted Rowdy to change his account. The bull (becoming aggressive) seems key to the story but it wasn’t even in the account I heard from Jack’s nephew. There was crew trying to get the people out of the car that hit the bull. This sounds like a big coverup to me (the news account). I just can’t understand how those cops could have done that. We seem to get the ex military rambos around here. I’ve heard plenty about these deputies being difficult. I don’t know how Donna is doing. I hate to bother the family. I am pretty close to her and I’m so worried she isn’t going to make it.(This is a post on FB)Reply With Quote

Actually, *married* women were typically barred from teaching in those days. A married *man* could teach, but if a woman was the teacher, she was single. It wasn’t considered proper for a married woman to work.

A child who behaves one way with his parents supervising sometimes behaves in an entirely different way when with a group of peers his or her age in a school setting.

A child who behaves one way when alone or with two or three friends will behave differently in a room with 20-30 other children, especially if only one adult is present.

parents know more of the psychology you describe than non parents ... which is my point

Not always. Some parents will insist that Johnny couldn’t have possibly done X in the classroom because he would never do X at home.

Whether they are aware of the psychology, they will ignore it if they think claiming ignorance of the phenomenons will benefit their child in the short term (avoiding detention or suspension).

Your username is aptly chosen.

They may operate that way for now, because they are shortsighted enough to think that they public will back them no matter how many toddlers are wounded by grenades or ranchers are murdered in the street.

But Americans can only be pushed so far. They reap the wind; they do not realize what they sow.

This day and time, if one values one’s life, one stays as far away from officers of the law as possible.
