BOISE, Idaho
The family of an Adams County rancher involved in an encounter with two sheriffâs deputies says the deputies killed him in a âcompletely unjustifiedâ shooting.
Survivors of Jack Yantis, the 62-year-old who died a week ago in the darkness on U.S. 95 north of Council, say they will pursue claims against Adams County for Yantisâ death.
Donna Yantis spent her 63rd birthday Thursday at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, where she has been recovering from a heart attack she suffered after her husband was killed.
Family members have shared with the Statesman their account of what happened last Sunday night. The account is in written statements prepared with attorneys the family hired after the incident, a video statement Donna Yantis made from her Boise hospital bed, and a draft transcript the lawyers prepared of one family memberâs account of what happened.
The Statesman also interviewed several family members, including Rowdy Paradis, a nephew of the coupleâs who said he witnessed the shootings.
âLaw enforcement should be trained to de-escalate situations,â said Rowdy Paradis. âIn this case, I stood 10 feet away and watched two deputies escalate the situation and needlessly kill a man.â
Sheriff Ryan Zollman did not respond Saturday to an emailed request for comment on the familyâs account or to a message left with a sheriffâs dispatcher.
Here is what the family says happened on Nov. 1:

Criminality will be hard to prove, but stupidity is apparent.
Guy wanted to have a gunfight over livestock in the middle of the road.
Say wha??!
Just the 99% making a bad name for the 1%.
The Deputies were abviou8sly there to protect and serve.
Perhaps not, but I've read enough abut this to be skeptical of the "official" account.
Guy wanted to have a gunfight over livestock in the middle of the road.
My FRiend, I do hope you look closer into the available accounts. This may not be as simple as you appear to believe.
Disclaimer: I know nothing about this incident other than what I have read on line, but that coupled with events over the last several decades, some of which I did have first hand knowledge of, does not give me any reason to automatically accept the official narrative - in fact, it adds to my skepticism.
the 99% have blood on their hands because the cover up for their “brothers”
Idaho is openrange. I think cattle have right of way.
This is what happens when peace officers are turned into paramilitary thugs. They are bastards who should be executed. Watch the Blue Wall of Silence slither out to defend these two punks.
“Guy wanted to have a gunfight over livestock in the middle of the road.”
Prove it or retract it.
“Law enforcement should be trained to de-escalate situations”
Something I’ve been saying for years.
Oh, and IBTG
And what leads you to believe that.
Civilians need to understand that the situation must be controlled. LEO must impose control of the scene at all costs. If the public don’t understand this, they should be shot. This disrespect to authority cannot be tolerated.
I really wonder about the psychology of these deputies. Do people like these two easily coalesce into murderous groups? Groups that are manipulated do eradicate the sworn enemies of the republic. The republic being whatever the elite’s propaganda mouthpieces say it is.
The USA appears to be alot like prewar Germany of the 1930s.
Does America deserve the same fate as Nazi Germany?
TITLE 25
ANIMALS
CHAPTER 21
ANIMALS RUNNING AT LARGE
25-2118. Animals on open range — No duty to keep from highway. No person owning, or controlling the possession of, any domestic animal running on open range, shall have the duty to keep such animal off any highway on such range, and shall not be liable for damage to any vehicle or for injury to any person riding therein, caused by a collision between the vehicle and the animal. “Open range” means all uninclosed lands outside of cities, villages and herd districts, upon which cattle by custom, license, lease, or permit, are grazed or permitted to roam.

You change your handle to “asleep at the wheel”
Certainly that is the predominate mind-set throughout LEO.
But that's not what we are paying them for.
We are paying them to apprehend criminals. Establish presence. Bring official order to chaotic scenes.
And, this is the great chasm that has made many people see cops as their enemy. A situation that cannot long endure.
I’ve been in similar situations and this is so far over the top for the actions of the deputies that I find the story
hard to believe. If this is true, and from all the witnesses
statements, it seems to be, those cops are transplanted city
boys...
Besides having more details the families version lines up closely with other witness accounts I have read locally. The police are lawyering up.
Here in Idaho people are pro-police enough that even when these two are found culpable at worst they’ll be fired.
