Alison Maria Krauss (born July 23, 1971) is an American bluegrass-country singer-songwriter and musician. She entered the music industry at an early age, winning local contests by the age of ten and recording for the first time at fourteen. She signed with Rounder Records in 1985 and released her first solo album in 1987. She was invited to join the band with which she still performs, Alison Krauss and Union Station (AKUS), and later released her first album with them as a group in 1989.[2]
She has released fourteen albums, appeared on numerous soundtracks, and helped renew interest in bluegrass music in the United States. Her soundtrack performances have led to further popularity, including the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack, an album also credited with raising American interest in bluegrass, and the Cold Mountain soundtrack, which led to her performance at the 2004 Academy Awards.
As of 2012, she has won 27 Grammy Awards from 41 nominations, tying her with Quincy Jones as the most awarded living recipient, second only to the late classical conductor Sir Georg Solti who holds the record for most wins of all time with 31.[3] She is the most awarded singer and the most awarded female artist in Grammy history.[4] At the time of her first, the 1991 Grammy Awards, she was the second youngest winner (currently tied as the ninth youngest).[5]

Union Station is a bluegrass / country band associated with singer Alison Krauss. The act established in 1987 as a backup band for Krauss is usually referred to as Alison Krauss and Union Station and was initially made up of Krauss, Tim Stafford, Ron Block, Adam Steffey, Barry Bales and Larry Atamanuik. In 1994, Tim Stafford was replaced by guitar and mandolin player Dan Tyminski and in 1998, Steffey left and was replaced by dobro player Jerry Douglas.

Alison’s voice is a bluegrass angel. Just love her and Union Stations music.

I saw her with Robert Plant during the time they did an album together. It was great! One of the best shows ever, and I go to a lot of live music.
Mrs. 40 and I were pleased that Alison performed at the Grand Ole Opry when we were there. She is an incredibly talented entertainer.
I also fell in love with Alison Krauss the first time I saw her.
Saw her first time in the hills of Virginia (state where I was born) at a bluegrass festival. She was a homely teenager with frizzy reddish hair, plump and unshapely, with pimples. But boy could she sing! She lit up the whole crowd and everyone could sense she would be a great one.
Today she is the most award-winning musical artist ever recorded.
Like people have said, she could sing the lines from an old telephone book and you’d think it came from Heaven.

My favorite Alison Krauss song is an early one that isn’t even on that album because it wasn’t from a Union Station album.

Friend of mine took me to a bluegrass festival in Connecticut around in ‘90. I didn’t know anyone - she and US performed - loved her voice - instantly had the hots for her and her blonde violinist. Later after the set walking through the woods had a brief encounter with them - Man! did I fall in love at first sight! :)
