George Barris, the legendary custom car builder who created television's original Batmobile and helped define California's car culture with colorfully designed vehicles ranging from the stunningly beautiful to the simply outrageous, died Thursday. He was 89. [...]
Barris customized cars and buses for TV shows, movies, celebrities and heads of state and was a pioneer in designing small, plastic models of those customized cars. I love me some 70’s era fat metal flake, but in red or blue or green - not brown. Sparkly brown looks like polished turd.
Thanks, that was actually very interesting.
Didn’t the Robby the Robot from “Forbidden Planet” get used in several other movies?
That is it.
Thanks.
The Original Black Beauty is bad ass!
Yes, in a sequel of sorts called “The Invisible Boy.” Robby also appeared as an antique shop item in “Gremlins,” I think. Made many TV appearances including “Lost in Space” and many episodes of “Twilight Zone.”

Very interesting. I have no experience with custom cars but helped move the National Motorcycle Museum and some of the custom bikes were virtually unridable props.
Stopped by Barris’s shop occasional and hung out in Von Dutch's one car shop in Hollywood for a few beers quite often in the early 50s.
I remember the ‘Muynsters’ episode where Grandpa built “Dragula”. One of my favorite lines....”The exhaust pipes are made from an organ. It’s the only dragster that plays ‘O Promise Me’ in third gear!”
Who does this?
Some of the fun I've had in my life was due to Mr. Barris. Thanks George.
Monkeemobile was Dean Jeffries.

That’s a funny one.
I don’t remember that episode but I probably watched it.
That’s no match(!) for Jim Morrison & The Doors’ Fire Engine...
