Guitar Town is the debut album from singer-songwriter Steve Earle, released on March 5, 1986. It topped the Billboard country album charts, and the title song reached #7 on the country singles charts. Earle was also nominated for two 1987 Grammy Awards, Best Male Country Vocalist and Best Country Song, for the title track.

The album was recorded in late 1985 and early 1986 in Nashville, Tennessee, at Sound Stage Studio. Overdubs were later recorded at Nashville's Emerald Studios. It was one of the first country music albums to be recorded digitally, utilizing the state-of-the-art Mitsubishi X-800. Each of the album's ten tracks was either written or co-written by Earle.

Galway Girl is one of my favorite Steve Earle songs. I particularly like the Elders cover of this song.

Both Copperhead Road and I Feel Alright are in my regular rotation in the car.

I had the misfortune to see Mr. Earle live some years back. He started talking like Josh Sugarman (Violence Policy Center) about guns, THEN he started the “Daily Worker” union crap. Fer cryin’ out loud, Steve, SHUT UP AND SING!

It is a damned shame since his earlier lyrics come across with a kind of rebel/libertarian flavor.

Maybe he went down the same drain as the Dixie Chicks when he recorded the paen to the American talibani John Walker Lindh. How in the world did he get from “Rain Came Down” to muzzie-love?

His left-wing moonbat spew put me off his music for years — I haven’t played any of his music since.

Interesting, very pleasing blend of instrumentation. Has a clear Irish flavor with French Cajun spice thrown.
