They were just saying just now on the radio, that apparently he may have been doing some things which were at odds with his job.

Don’t know, just what they were saying.

According to what i heard, they started investigating upon his death.

**Fox Lake Police Lt. Charles Joseph “Joe” Gliniewicz was stealing and laundering money from the Fox Lake Police Explorer’s program and committed suicide due to the “personal stress from scrutiny of his management,” Lake County Major Crimes Task Force Commander George Filenko said.**

The evidence is damning:

**100 investigators stayed on the case for weeks, reviewing more than 6,500 deleted text messages from Gliniewicz, 30,000 telephone numbers, 40,000 emails and thousands of pages of financial records. Additionally, 250 pieces of evidence were submitted to local and federal crime labs.**

Sad for all involved.

Some folks who contributed to a fund for his survivors.... want their money back.

Forty thousand e-mails? That’s a lot of e-mails. For anyone.

Sure seems like it; maybe they lumped in, texting, FB stuff.

A prominent candidate for prez deleted a lot of emails ....to hide something? I think the parallel is telling...hope the truth will out.

I don't like to text and don't facebook. In 16 years of FR, I haven't made 50,000 replies, and I;m fairly opinionated. I get on the order of 100 e-mails a day, and seldom send more than ten.

Considering all that, forty thousand e-mails/texts sure seems like a lot for someone who had a full time job on the side and did community work.

What would have been REALLY sad would have been an innocent trio of guys (because there never were any) getting arrested or even killed because of this asshole.

Are you saying that the officer is being railroaded?

That he didn’t do, what has been alleged?

Unfortunately I was wrong when I gave him the benefit of doubt. The media will love this story to portray all police officers a “bad people”.

It will play in to the Quentin Tarantino rants.

The young Explorers in his group must be devastated. It will be practically impossible to repair the damage done to them.

A lot of searching police were fired up with yet another apparent *war on cops* scenario.

There are no winners in this betrayal.

When he supposedly radioed in that a racially mixed bunch had shot him or he was chasing them, I thought that unusual. Now we know why it seemed unusual. It didn’t happen.

He knew they [town officials] were closing in on him. Coward’s way out. I feel for his children, and the Explorers in his group.

Lake County Major Crimes Task Force Commander George Filenko:
“The embarrassment comes to me personally that this is the first time in my career that I’ve felt ashamed by the acts of another police officer,”

Sad.

If only more politicians had the decency to follow suit when they come under scrutiny....

It seems *betrayal* of the public trust, in all quarters, is the norm, not the exception, these days.

I easily get 1000 emails/week at work. It all depends on the activities one is involved in. For me working with suppliers it increases my intake. I could see him working as a coordinator for a charity or whatever type group easily getting 200-300/week with no problem.

That doesn’t include voicemails, personal email, texts, etc. Just biz emails. I think on personal email I get about 300-400/week, but most of it is junk mail advertisements or political crud.
