This album essentially replaced Styx's previous greatest hits album, Styx - Classics, Volume 15, which was released by A&M in 1987. That previous album had excluded the hit song "Lady" because the song was originally recorded for and released through Wooden Nickel Records (which also had a distribution arrangement with RCA Records). Because A&M/Polygram had been unable to secure distribution rights to the song, most of the classic lineup of Styx (Dennis DeYoung, Tommy Shaw, Chuck Panozzo, and James "J.Y." Young) reunited to re-record the track at Dennis' home studio, The White Room. They were joined by uncredited session drummer Todd Sucherman, who filled in for John Panozzo due to Panozzo's failing health; Sucherman joined the band permanently in 1996, during the Return to Paradise tour. The track, which is very similar to the original, was titled "Lady '95".
With the exception of "Lady '95", Styx - Greatest Hits features the original album versions of all the other songs included in the compilation. "Come Sail Away" is presented here in its full 6:05 version and "Miss America" is here in its original studio version (despite the CD's packaging showing incorrect time listings for both tracks).

Blue Collar Man is one of my favorites!
Suite Madam Blue and Lorelei- wow, memory lane!
... You’ve got the world
In the palm of your hand.
But your hand’s drenched with sweat, and your head needs a rest.....”
That my friends, is a rock ballad.
I was never a big Styx fan but saw them in concert two years ago and they put on a great show. I really enjoyed it.
Bump to find and play on my tablet.
The lead vocals of grating falsettos irritated millions. The ridiculously foolish looking drummer was a visual turn-off too.
A miserable affront put forward by Big Media execs to make millions through cultural degradation.
Styx contributed nothing but ugliness. Like their name. A loathsome collection of poseurs and front men for greedy leftist's enrichment.
The first rock concert I went to was Styx Paradise Theater.
Thanks for this.
My favorite by far is “Too Much Time On My Hands”.

Also ‘Babe’, ‘Lady’, ‘Come Sail Away’, ‘Renegade’.
I prefer to listen to the studio albums and then cull my own personal choices into my own mix. Or I just listen to the studio album as it was intended to be by the artist.
I actually do have a Styx playlist on my iTunes and I inserted "Desert Moon" by Dennis DeYoung in there. Not a true Styx song but it could very well be. Right up there with the best of Styx - in my personal opinion.
I’m not enough of a music critic to be able to say what is good music, or bad. I just know what I like. And when it comes to Styx, I like much of their music,in part because it reminds me of a time in my life that was enjoyable, and reminds me of friends I no longer see, but remember fondly.

Saw them back in the 70’s (I actually went to see Starcastle and Blue Oyster Cult - Styx was the main act). They put on a good show. Never had liked them before, but they won my respect.
