American Pharoah will run in the Breeders Cup Classic. He will retire after the race.
Should he prevail today - He will be the only horse ever to win the Triple Crown and the BC classic.
American Pharoah just won.
What a horse! Superb beast. And he won by a lot.
That was so fun! Whole family screaming for him! Beautiful.
That’s really cool to hear. I laugh when we get excited, but he is one of God’s creations, and a magnificent example at that.
First horse EVER to win TC and BC classic! A thing of beauty to watch- Perfect ride by Espinoza!
Total domination... Top 3 all time...Grand Slam winnner...loved it.
Crowd going wild deafening roar for AP -Good-he deserves it!
Thanks, would have missed it w/o the heads up
As a teen in the mid-70s I worked at Belmont racetrack. There were THREE Triple Crown winners during that decade (Secretariat-1973, Seattle Slew-1977, and Affirmed-1978), plus Ruffian and Forego! I used to see Ruffian in the mornings passing our barn going to the training track.
Pharoah gets a military escort to the barn -Cool!
Affirmed (1978) of course was the last TC winner, before AP.
CONGRATULATIONS! AMERICAN PHAROAH!!!

should have been 4...SPECTACULAR BID 1979...why Delp kept that silly kid as the jockey, ill never understand.
I also spent some time working at the tracks on the So. Cal circuit.
There isn't a day that goes by, where I don't have some thought that takes me back there -Just being around racehorses everyday was truly a privilege.
I still miss it-even after all these years.
Spectacular Bid

NEW YORK - Passions can take hold at a tender age. For Teresa Pete, it was a passion for horses. She remembers watching the Kentucky Derby as a young girl, marveling at the thoroughbreds' graceful power, their riders spurring them toward the finish line with an intensity that bordered on fury. She had always dreamed of going to Churchill Downs, but never did she imagine that she might one day find herself in its winner's circle.
Her dream was realized years later when, as mistress of Maryland's Hawksworth Farm, she acquired the yearling Spectacular Bid. He was purchased at one of Keeneland's fall auctions, as opposed to a traditionally more prestigious summer sale, in what proved to be a remarkably good investment. He "was a special horse from the beginning," Teresa says, "always doing what was asked of him."
From 1978 to 1980, the steely gray stallion won 26 of 30 races and set several track records, some of which still stand today. Spectacular Bid's attempt at the Triple Crown began in 1979 with the Kentucky Derby, which he won by 2-3/4 lengths, followed by a triumph at Preakness with 5-1/2 lengths, both with 19 year-old Ronnie Franklin at the reins. Victory at Belmont seemed all but assured, and with a teenage prodigy riding a horse from Keeneland's âbargain basement," as one reporter put it, the crowd was on their side.
Then fate intervened. Like something out of Aesop's Fables, Spectacular Bid stepped on a safety pin the morning of the race, its point firmly lodged in his hoof.
Seemingly undeterred, the horse took his place at the starting gate and by the halfway mark he was in the lead. But the mile-and-a-half distance proved too much. He lost his position in the final moments, and with it the Triple Crown.
After two months of recuperating from his injury, Spectacular Bid returned to racing with the great Billy Shoemaker as jockey, earning him 1980's Horse of the Year. Shoemaker called Spectacular Bid the best horse he had ever ridden, an opinion echoed by The Blood-Horse magazine, which ranked the stallion among the top ten U.S. thoroughbreds of the twentieth century. Eliciting comparisons to Man O' War and Secretariat, Spectacular Bid continued to receive about 300 visitors per year until his death in 2003.
It is going to break a lot of wallets & hopes when they discover that American Pharaoh is gay! I swear that I heard it from the horse’s mouth (just don’t ask me which one!)
While working for the late Hall of Fame trainer JP Conway we had a horse run against Forego in the Carter Hdcp at Aqueduct on Kent Derby day. Both our horse and Forego were in the “receiving barn” since both were shipped in from another track (Belmont) and not based at Aqueduct. Anyway, the horse was named Nile Delta. At the time he held two track or stakes records. It was my job to walk him around the shed row before the race. As we walked by Forego’s stall, Forego lunched at ND and broke the rubber and chain gate that is sometimes used instead of the wooden half door. Both horses were geldings, so I don’t know why Forego was so aggressive. In any case, he didn’t get very far because there was still a shank (chain) holding him to the stall.
The last stable I worked for was Odgen Phipps, under trainer John Russell at the time.
When you're Kate Upton, no man is off-limits-even if they're not exactly human.
The two-time Sports Illustrated cover girl revealed a not-so-little secret-she wants to lay one on Triple Crown racehorse American Pharoah.
Upton explained "I'm so excited to meet American Pharoah. I just want to make out with him."
Upton is set to present the winner of the Breeder's Cup, who may be Pharoah, with their award this weekend."

Thoroughbreds have to “cover” to breed, no artificial insemination. His retirement is eating grass and getting laid :-)
