Several effective things went by the board with the widespread availability of penicillin, things like colloidal silver which I use so far effectively for infections. We will see these things come back after we go to full on single (government) payer medicine and pharmaceutical R&D dries up and the extant antibiotics have lost their effectiveness. New ones have to be brought on line regularly as the microbes select to antibiotic-immune varieties. When pharmaceutical R&D has to compete with war costs and welfare payments for funding R&D funding will enter steep decline. No more new antibiotics.
