To: Alberta's Child

There is rampant overt contempt for police in that town. I wouldn’t want to be a cop in that city. I was over in the nicer section of Brooklyn a couple months ago and the police doing foot patrols were working in groups of 4+. The police have armored guard shacks all around the local precinct. I can’t imagine what it is like over in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

It's a natural pathology that you find at work in police states. This is exactly what New York City has become -- a haven of whining malcontents who alternately complain that: (1) the police aren't doing enough to stem the tide of violence, drugs, etc.; and (2) the police are heavy-handed thugs.

That's why almost any issue in New York City is a lose-lose proposition for any public official to deal with.
