HISTORY LESSON ON YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY CARD

Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (& some older ones) didn’t know this. It’s easy to check out, if you don’t believe it. Be sure and show it to your family and friends. They need a little history lesson on what’s what and it doesn’t matter whether you are Democrat or Republican. Facts are Facts.

Social Security Cards up until the 1980s expressly stated the number and card were not to be used for identification purposes.

Since nearly everyone in the United States now has a number, it became convenient to use it anyway and the NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION message was removed.

Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. His promises are in black, with updates in red.

1.) That participation in the Program would be Completely voluntary [No longer voluntary],

2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the Program [Now 7.65% on the first $90,000, and 15% on the first $90,000 if you’re self-employed],

3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year [No longer tax deductible],

4.) That the money the participants put into the independent ‘Trust Fund’ rather than into the general operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program [Under Johnson the money was moved to the General Fund and Spent], and

5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income [Under Clinton & Gore up to 85% of your Social Security can be Taxed].

Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month — and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to ‘put away’ — you may be interested in the following:

Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent ‘Trust Fund’ and put it into the general fund so that Congress could spend it?

A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the democratically controlled House and Senate.

Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?

A: The Democratic Party.

Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?

A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the ‘tie-breaking’ deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the US

AND MY FAVORITE:

Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants?

A: That’s right! Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it!

Now, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!

And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it! If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe changes will evolve. Maybe not, though. Some Democrats are awfully sure of what isn’t so — but it’s worth a try. How many people can YOU send this to?

Actions speak louder than bumper stickers.

Remember back when Bush proposed letting SS recipients put 10% of the money paid into SS could be used to invest in government approved programs thereby increasing the amount of monthly payments they’d receive at retirement. Remember how the Democrats howled? Showed pictures of granny being pushed down the stairs; how after Bush’s SOTU speech on this the Democrat response was to gather around a statue of FDR and put out a sorrowful pitiful response?

I do remember several proposals Bush put forward that were shot down by the Dems with lies and theater, aided by big media.

I thought putting forward an ownership society, reducing dependence on ME oil, and (as you say) begining to invest in alternative vehicles with SS money were all great ideas that could have been part of GWB’s legacy.

Why the Bush people and the RNC allowed them to get away with it is beyond me. Very infuriating.

I went a few months ago to the main SS office in Boston to ask a couple of questions.Of the 50 (or more) people in the waiting room there weren't any more than a half dozen who were anywhere near 65.

I was stunned...but upon reflection understood that that was just a part of the Rat Party's "Grand Plan".

I find the use of the term "trust fund" by the government to be funny, if it wasn't so perverted.

When you and I think of a "trust fund", you and I think of money that parents put away in a separate, safe location for a child, so that the child has income to support a college education or that the child has some income throughout his/her life. Regardless of the jokes about "trust fund babies" and the like, the money is put away separately so that it cannot be abused by the parents, the parents' creditors, or by other heirs in a probate case.

When the government talks about a "trust fund," it is completely different.

If what the government did for a "trust fund" was to be analogous to what a well-to-do person did in establishing a trust fund for his child, the government go out and invest excess taxes collected outside of the government (stocks, bonds, mutual funds, bank accounts, or whatever).

In the case of social security, money that is not spent on social security benefits is "loaned" to the US Treasury through the purchase by the Social Security Administration (SSA) so-called "special issue" bonds. And then the money is spent by the treasury. The theory goes that as long as more FICA tax is collected than benefits paid out, SSA will, net, buy bonds and when benefits to be paid exceed the amount of FICA tax collected, then SSA will, net, sell bonds back to the Treasury to cover the shortfall. Yes, I know, it is a lot more complicated then that, but, in general, that's the way it runs.

Of course, everybody's seen this chart (the one that shows Social Security going bankrupt in 2033):

(FYI, the Y axis units are in Trillions)

What I don't hear anybody talking about is what happens to the ability to budget when the General Fund has to start paying back the money they owed Social Security (to the tune of hundreds of billions each year).

Thoughts on great points you brought up:

“I do remember several proposals Bush put forward that were shot down by the Dems with lies and theater, aided by big media.”
* Dems are against any emerging threat to their gov’t entitlement dependency racket. However, looking back, can you imagine the damage to people’s SS retirement funds and future that Wall Street could have wrecked if they had their hooks into SS funds? Taxpayer bailout bonanza.

I thought putting forward an ownership society, reducing dependence on ME oil, and (as you say) begining to invest in alternative vehicles with SS money were all great ideas that could have been part of GWB’s legacy.
* Excellent ideas you have. However, Bush II like Bush II, likely “didn’t get that vision thing” as his father so famously said prior to the 1992 election.
Republicans are usually not innovative and squander their time in office and opportunity for legacy. Dems and liberals obfuscate unless Republicans sponsor a big bad gov’t idea like No Child Left Behind.

Why the Bush people and the RNC allowed them to get away with it is beyond me. Very infuriating.
*I used to think the same thing, until I had a reality breakthough: Since Reagan, establishment Republicans and Democrats are two sides of the same Controlled Opposition coin.
Republicans are stupid, and Democrats are evil.
Both parties attend the same closed door Witch’s Coven planning sessions with global elite puppet masters.

I think we Americans are getting short shift or just plain old shafted...

we pay the taxes...

we pay the premiums for health insurance and then some...

we're restricted on what we can get on our medical plans.

and WE'RE told to keep working to get the "full" SS benefit..

we always obey...

yet SS is going to illegals...SS is going to charlatans and liars and sloths....its going to people that never worked a second in this country.

I had to re-read the above.

When I first read it, I thought it said "Waffen SS"

Here’s all you need to know about SS. Take it as soon as you can. Take it at 62 and pray its still around when you’re 80.

Meant Bush II (Dubya), like Bush I (his father) likely doesn’t “get that vision thing.”

but I want to work and need to work a little longer...plus my SS would build up some if I work a couple more years...

isn't there a big penalty if you keep working after taking SS when you're 62?

Put your two values in a spread sheet and calculate forward. You’ll be 78 or 79 before you draw as much money from SS if you wait, compared to if you start at 62.

[[yet SS is going to illegals...SS is going to charlatans and liars and sloths....its going to people that never worked a second in this country. ]]

Illegals are costing this country between $400 and $600 BILLION dollars PER YEAR- much of that from federal programs that pay them like welfare, schooling, SS etc- (There are other costs figured into these amounts like cost to house illegal criminals in prisons, the cost of lawyers to defend them and the cost to families who are victims of illegals etc)

Trumps is Exactly right when he declares that by and large, illegals are costing this country a staggering amount of money and lives-

This country can find all kinds of money to keep paying approx. $500 BILLION dollars a year for ILLEGALS, but by golly our country can’t seem to find the money legal citizens paid into SS all those years- and can’t find any money to give our nation’s most vulnerable citizens, seniors, veterans and disabled people, a cost of living increase, by golly we can find all kinds of money to give to more and more illegals pouring across our borders
