What is your favorite patriotic Rock and Roll song?
Maybe I should have excluded anti-US protest songs in the beginning...
Protest / saying “let’s fix this” is one thing. Dissing the country is another. Besides, Springsteen can’t sing very well.
I will say a few of the tunes he did after 911 are ok (in the spirit of this thread.) But “favorites”? Nope.
Same.
Appetite for Destruction for me is one of the very best hard rock albums. It's right up there with Back in Black, Blizzard of Ozz, British Steel and a few select others.
I'm too lazy to go to many concerts anymore, but if GnR came around again in the original lineup I would fork out a lot of cash to see that show.
The success of that song in both the US and Canada did nothing to diminish the stereotype of the ‘ugly, dumb ‘Murcan’ that Canadians were, and still are, fed by our MSM.
Comrade Bruce Ilych Springsteen is ‘buds’ with O’Venal, so we can surmise who the ‘ugly, dumb ‘Murcans’ are! At least one, anyway. The other? Well, his long form BC is still not public but, in spite of that, ‘ugly, dumb ‘Murcan’ still rings true!
I will go ahead and order Duff’s book then, thanks.
Have a long trip to Asia coming up and will have time to read plenty.
I knew it was out there, just hadn’t gotten to it yet.
” (yes, I know there is references to a groupie)”
From Arkansas whom Bill Clinton also knew.
Oh, yes.
It’s somewhat of a protest, and, anymore, somewhat unfounded IMO, as we’ve cleaned up a LOT: Ask a visitor from almost any Asian country, for example, and they’ll rave about how beautiful America still is. (Or, maybe, on average, how few people there are here!) In fact, some Chinese refer to the US as “The Beautiful Country”.
American Trilogy - Elvis Presley
You win.
Back in the USA.
I’d add pretty much anything by Chuck Berry.
Ol’ Neil also did a song he gave away called “Let’s Roll” after Todd Beamer and the guys who fought back and took down the last plane on 911.
Haha I was going to post that as a troll!
“According to the Epistle to the Philippians our citizenship is in Heaven (if you belong to Jesus Christ). So, Stairway to Heaven could be patriotic”
I think you’ are unsure on the concept of Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin.
As one not normally moved by pop music I agree that this is very powerful, particularly in live performances given by the King.
Nowadays I doubt it would be well received (even by many freepers) for the vague suggestion that there was anything honorable at all about the Southern Cause.
Then again, even the Battle Hymn portion of it is frowned upon by the cultural Marxists that reign in our society.
Not just "some" of them. Everybody who speaks Chinese uses that term (mei guo) for the USA.
On the other hand, Chinese speakers don't necessarily mean that they think the USA is always literally "beautiful" -- not any more than they think that San Francisco is literally an "old gold mountain" (zhou jin shan). These terms have simply become idiomatic expressions, pretty well stripped of their original meanings.
That being said, who can blame all those wealthy Chinese who arrange for their babies to be born in the USA? I'd wanna do the same if I were in their place.
I was thinking specifically of Chinese, Filipinos, etc., who come here, and get out past city limits. (I know, “anecdotal evidence”, but still...)
Ah, that’s an old Russ Ballard tune! One of my favorite song writers.
As for Kiss - check this patriotic vibe out!
