When New Yorkers see something scurrying, they say something and that has brought rat complaints to the city's 311 hotline to a recent high of more than 24,000 so far this year, officials said on Thursday.
'The rats are taking over,' New York City comptroller Scott Stringer told Reuters. 'I'm a lifelong New Yorker and I've never seen it this bad... I see them on my way home, they're standing upright, they say, "Good morning, Mr Comptroller."'
With more than two months of grumbling still left in 2015, rodent-related grievances were already at 24,375 as of Wednesday, said Mayor Bill de Blasio spokeswoman Natalie Grybauskas. That's up from 20,545 in 2014 and 19,321 in 2013.

I would vote for Pizza Rat instead of Hillary.
Yup, those democrats are prolific. They spoil their nests, and then move on to somewhere else to do it all over again.

One of the problems with a socialist model (which we have to a degree) is that with so many problems, it is the government’s problem - not ours. Garbage in the streets? That’s the city’s problem? Overflowing waste bins? The city should fine those people?
Of course, the minute someone started going after the rats with a pellet gun they would be arrested. (Pellet guns, even paintball guns, are illegal in NYC!).

sad but true
There’s a rat problem in all major U. S. cities, but it’s especially bad in Washington, D.C..
Plague. Gonna get worse.
Ge Blasio is a prepper.
NYCity WILL have protein after the EMP!
Good job. My niece had a big snow dog - a malamute type dog - and despite his size he was nimble. He was like lightening when he was after rats. He would sniff them out, and wait, then ... snap.
The really big rats can be a challenge for a cat, but a good cat is up for it. I have a large old ex-tom, Hamlet. He was a homeless kitten, and I am so glad we took him in. From when he was 6 months old, he has hunted vermin - sometimes appearing at the back door with bleeding wounds and the body of a big rat. He is a big, muscly cat, equal to the black waterfront rats of Sydney.
ROFLMAO....oh that’s a good one!!!
That white dog on the left looks to be of the poodle type. He will, therefore, be very smart, adroit and quick. Thanks for this picture - nice to see something positive.
I remember in the late 60’s NYC Sanitation Dept ran a PSA saying “Your best defense against rats is a garbage can with the lid on. STARVE A RAT TODAY!”
We have a bad ‘rat problem here in California too.
Rats have been in charge since Giuliani left office and for all but a few years during the 19th and 20th centuries (Tammany Hall days). Having just read some comments on FB from someone I worked with in New York back in the late 80’s, a native New Yorker and Liberal Jew, castigating Republicans I’m inclined to just say let the F$%&ing Apple rot. The imbeciles deserve to stew in their waste.
Ben, the two of us need look no more,
We both found what we were looking for.
With a friend to call my own,
I’ll never be alone, and you, my friend, will see,
You’ve got a friend in me.
Ben, you’re always running here and there,
You feel you’re not wanted anywhere.
If you ever look behind and don’t like what you find
There’s something you should know, you’ve got a place to go.
In Thailand, at certain times of the year, they beat the rice paddies to run the rats into catchers at the opposite end. Granted, these are not Norway rats (like in NYC) but we used to eat the rats off barbecue stands every night (once we got drunk enough). Sorta like squirrel, but with a ricey taste.
