Berlin (AFP) - As the thermometer dips towards zero in Germany, thousands of asylum seekers spending their nights in tents are pleading for authorities to find them alternative housing.
"They say they are going to do something, but they are not telling us what. Maybe we are all going to turn to ice," said a 25-year-old Afghan who went by the name Hussein, and who has been living in one of several tent cities set up by authorities in the northern city of Hamburg.
"We cannot be under the tent for more than an hour at night," he said.
At the major northern port, as in other parts of the country, sleeping without heating is quickly becoming a nightmare as the temperatures tumble close to freezing.

Why didn’t all of these people flee to a Muslim country - any Muslim country?
Saudi, Jordan, Indonesia, Turkey, Dearborn?
Hopefully the locals offer them pork hot dogs and ice cold beer.
I hear their pain....and celebrate it.
Higher benefits, more social programs than say
Mississippi.
These whining Muslims make me sick.
Welcome to Northern Europe, German latitude about the same as Quebec. Now STFU and go back to your nice warm sand box.
Works for me!
That's what happens when you show up uninvited!
Sigh. Back when cartoons used to be funny.

Get your behinds back to the desert hadji!
Water Cannon
They can all go to hell; I hear it’s warm there.
Ummm! Das ist sehr gut.
It sure is - and so are many Muslim countries.
The German authorities have been negligent in not posting weather forecasts at the border crossings.
Maybe they should put up posters of German winter sports, like the Battle of Moscow.
I see what you did there...

My Dad spent the record-cold winter of 1945 as an infantryman, sleeping in foxholes if the ground wasn’t too hard to shovel. His task as a newbie in the Hurtgen Forest/Ardennes was to retrieve dead and injured from the hillsides in hip-deep snow. Under fire.
He told me of nights they marched until they dropped, slept til they woke from shivering, rinse and repeat. Machine gun fire, rockets and air warfare were frequent companions. All to help in the cause of making Europe free and ensuring our own freedom.
The “refugees” might think of that as they await sleep on a cold night.
