They are freaky looking, but as someone mentioned upthread, there are worse threats to surfers and swimmers among shark species than a hammerhead. They’re really not know to attack humans all that often.

Not true. I've seen 10 footers fishing off barn kelp in San Clemente. El Nino is happening though. Last summer we were catching dorado off Oceanside. Even wahoo off san diego were reported.
