The final poster for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is here

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in just two months, and today it's finally time to see the movie's official poster. No, not the teaser poster from last year, and not the promo item handed out at D23; this is the real deal. The poster features the key members of the cast that audiences have met thus far: Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, and Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, with some other faces that you just might recognize (hi, Han and Leia).

What's even more interesting is the sight of some sort of orb in the upper right corner, complete with a glowing red eye. 30 years ago, I would have said this was some sort of riff on the Death Star, but given the secrecy that J.J. Abrams has been able to pull off up until this point it could be almost anything. A new weapon? A new character? We don't know right now, but odds are it will be revealed when the next trailer for the film is shown tomorrow during Monday Night Football.

Mel Brooks is a national treasure, who would never be allowed to make most of his classic movies were he to try today.

And yes, far too many of his stars (from all of his movies) are gone today.

I think that Lucas’ #1 motive for what happened in the later movies (after ESB) was simply profit motive. He was really “the father” of movie merchandising, which he didn’t have to share with the studios, and THAT’S what made him rich.

Seeing that scene for the first time, on a huge screen at long gone “Glenwood Theater” in Overlad Park, KS was the most incredible experience I had ever had in a movie theater when I was 14 years old...
