Ditto! I hope they kill Solo off fast and ugly
. Really ..35 years later and he still dresses the same? Bad enough Forf looks like a homeless dementia patient. I think we all know that killing off all the OT characters will end the franchise. Disney will lesrn that the hardvwsy. Different times now. You cant recreate a phenomenon.

You cant recreate a phenomenon. Paul McCartney: You can't reheat a soufflé. (In reference to a Beatles reunion. This was, of course, before Lennon's murder.)
It's not just the filmmaking. It's a whole era that changed. The poster looks good -- more edgy & erotically charged than the original. But it reeks too much of current PC -- something quite absent in the original.

>>>Oy vay! Enough with the clone theories already. Storm Troopers are NOT clones. After the Clone Wars the clones were discontinued and died out>>>
In my best Johnny Carson voice, I did not know that.
OK, so you have now proven you are a bigger Nerd than I could ever hope to be.
Oy vay? That Black Storm Trooper is Jewish?
Let me guess, Sammy Davis Kenobe? LOL

J.J Abrams is a big fan of Jar Jar Binks.
That is what the J.J. stands for!

There is an illuminati triangle on the poster!!
I wonder what it could mean?

The poster looks good -- more edgy & erotically charged than the original. More erotically charged? I dunno - the original had Leia showing a lot of leg (yeah, I know - not really welcome in the third trilogy). Both versions of the original poster had that "fantasy art" feel, this one has none of that. Subjective, I know.

Look. the dfifference between SW now and then is- THEN Lucas took the 'mythological' approach and the public NEEDED something uplifting for which to cheer. He hit a bullseye so well it even surprised him! Now the public is more cynical and the unexpected blockbuster/phenomenon is a necessity if Disney is to recoup a BUTTload of money. They have to cater to the widest audience-a bit of everything for the biggest return-and that means finding a formula. It's why we get rehashes of every big TV show, and they seldom work. This film has yet to be seen, but all the signs of corporate formula are there. I don't think there is as much inspiration and uplifting storytelling at work in this film as there is 'put everything in that can make it a winner'. If not everyone loving everything( as in 1977) then in a wider audience liking one or two things. Put in your touchpoints-Luke like character in the girl in the desert, Solo like character in the renegade Stormtrooper(not to mention the minority audience), a nifty new droid/toy and the original characters and hardware( anyone wonder why technology/spaceships and clothing seems not to have progressed in a generation?) and pray the sentimentality of the original fans translates into$$$. IMO they waited too long. A new audience will not be devoted long term-too fickle these days.
SW without Luke will be 'Starship Troopers', Batman without Batman, empty fantasy calories and a pastiche of cinematic bling without a point.
And ohh, I HOPE I'm wrong. It would be wonderful to get that feeling again, wouldn't it?

It would be wonderful to get that feeling again, wouldn't it? Wouldn't it. The original SW had a lot of heart. (Also the sequel, EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, which I found better.) But again, the era probably had a lot to do with it.
Disney once had a lot of heart, also. Now, everything is formulaic -- either sterile corporate or PC/liberal (or both). I won't be rushing to see this film.

I don’t know what is sadder- that some of us still need to feel that(uplifting celebration of hope and heroism) again or that society, as a whole, doesn’t seem to need it at all. And I hope I’m wrong there too.

That reminds me of some ditzy new-blatherer who tied herself into a pretzel while attempting to speak of a Black person from Africa.
The reporterette described the person, who had never stepped off the African continent as an “African American African.”
I’m also reminded of a White girl from South Africa, who was a naturalized citizen, while filling out information on some sort of a school form, checked the box “African American.” People threw a fit, even though her selection of the box was 100% correct.

The fact that George Lucas is no longer involved with the “Star Wars” franchise gives me a bit of hope. Although I hope JJ Abrams puts the kibosh on his fascination with lens flare that nearly made his reboot of the “Star Trek” franchise unwatchable (judicious use of it, as well as the use of hand-held cameras, like in “Firefly” or even “Battlestar Galactica,” added to the viewers’ immersion in the scene. JJ’s use of it in the Star Trek reboot gave me a headache.)
