What Was the Most CONSERVATIVE TV Show (non-political)?
Self | October 16, 2017 | PJ-Comix

The other day I was watching a rerun of a popular TV show from the past. Suddenly it occurred to me that this was the most CONSERVATIVE TV show ever despite the fact that it wasn't specifically a political show.

Okay, I'll give you the name: DRAGNET. I was watching the color version that came back to the airwaves in 1967. Detective Joe Friday didn't fool around. He was all business with NO apologies in enforcing the law. Also notable was how he sneered at hippies, drug addicts, or (in the case of the episode I was watching) idiotic teenyboppers who shoplifted strictly to be members of a dopey club.

Scenes in Gunsmoke clearly showed saloon girls going up and down the staircase arm in arm with cowboys, and there were a few subtle story lines indicating the Long Branch was also a brothel. Gunsmoke was very adult and risque for the time.

I remember one episode where some guy got all upset about the past of one of the saloon girls that he married.

“Andy Griffith Show. Delightful.”

You know why it was so delightful?

Think about it -

Andy
Aunt Bea
Floyd
Goober
Deputy Fife
Oppie,
and on and on....

Nobody was married!!

(Paraphrased from some poster here on FR I think!)

It was a documentary show, like a lot of stuff on early tv.

But Tom select should have greeter hair and less of a pot belly and a lot more energy

First, do you have spell check or is it just that you're from NY?

Anyway, so Tom Selleck should be like, say William Bratton - and perhaps the black mayor should be more like de Blasio?

This is TV - entertainment and the series hopes to gain viewers - not necessarily be true to NY standards.

Also, it doesn't make sense that one son within the Reagan family would have such a severe NY accent that is so grating. That son would not have been allowed to run with thugs - at least in mythical TV land.

With that said, in real life you have a good point - look at the children of Mario Cuomo - Andrew sounds like a member of the Mafia.

Appears to be. Google Tina Louise and go to Images. That’s where I found it. An older Tina Louise would have looked much better than an altered Tina Louise. I’m all for a little tweaking here and there but she has gone way overboard.

Yes, Helen, the schoolteacher, was often on some feminist rant or other. Ellie, the pharmacist, was the daughter from Father Knows Best. I seem to recall Ellie running for mayor or something, and that was kind of a feminist episode. But she was sweeter and not as annoying as Helen.

I don’t remember Peggy or Mary. It was Helen I found annoying. I liked Ellie.

Mark-Lin Baker WAS amazing. That man’s face could go through 20 emotions in as many seconds.

TV these days is horrible.

I couldn't disagree more. Television is currently in a second global age, started with shows like The Wire, The Shield and The Sopranos.

Brilliantly written and acted recent show like Breaking Bad, The Red Road, Longmire, Justified, and The Americans. And there's fun action shows like Person of Interest and The Blacklist. And brilliantly visual shows like American Horror Story.

All the real show business talent these days are on television. Movies are horrible.

I was always a "Mary Ann" guy...but YIKES on today's "Ginger"! Dawn Wells has aged gracefully and is still quite attractive.
