The beloved children’s show characters will return in special called “H.R. Pufnstuf Comes to Mutt & Stuff!”

Nickelodeon is bringing “H.R. Pufnstuf” back for a new televised adventure for the first time in 45 years. The network announced on Tuesday that it has greenlit “H.R. Pufnstuf Comes to Mutt & Stuff!” The special will be part of the network’s order for 20 additional episodes of live-action preschool series “Mutt & Stuff” from Sid and Marty Krofft, the creators of “Pufnstuf.”

The beloved character that debuted on NBC in 1969 will return to TV in early 2016, along with friends Cling and Clang, Freddy the Flute and the Rescue Racer. Production on the special is beginning this fall.

Thanks for posting that intro. I had forgotten the backstory!

It seems like it was a small step from Pufnstuf to Dark Side of the Moon to Physical Grafitti, for me.

The Kroffts swear up and down that the show was NOT influenced at all by drugs of any kind.

LOL. Yeah, right. Sort of a bittersweet thing, really, because Jack Wild was a good man who was admirably brave through a particularly cruel death. RIP, and I hope he has a laugh or two watching a new generation try to wrap their heads around the show. You don't actually need drugs to come up with that stuff, I suppose, but it helps.

I remember an episode of The Monkeys where an alien spaceship arrived. It turned out that the aliens were plants or something and a flower bloomed out of the ship and was blowing smoke all over the place making people act oddly.

Frodis caper - the alien was a ficus tree with a football for a head.

Heady stuff. Mickey Dolanez produced that episode himself.

That show just freaked me out as a kid- Something about it was like having a hallucination or something- it was just a very odd surreal show

I thought the Banana Splits died in a plane crash?

You might have to settle for Lancelot Link and the Evolution Revolution.

Did he belong to a union, or was just slave labor for the network like Gary Coleman and the Oompa Loompas?

I tried to let my son watch the “new” Alvin (my husband was a big fan of Alvin - not me so much; nor his love of Peanuts).

Besides the very creepy animation (too human), they have many blatant potty jokes including them actually doing this rude stuff.

No more. Nope.

I’d really like to turn off more of these shows, honestly.

The Archies - "Mr. Factory"

The guy who wrote this song now has a conservative radio show on 1080 AM in Santa Cruz. Kind of a conservative show with a beatnik delivery.

“The beloved character that debuted on NBC in 1969 will return to TV.”

Beloved? No way. HR Pufnstuf was a just plain garbage. It’s return to TV today shows that TV is dead.

Rifleman with Chuck Connors had drama, Bible messages, family values and good writers.

I watch the show for medicinal purposes.

In order to induce vomiting?

I reckon the Krofts were also responsible for "The Bugaloos" or something like that.It had a very similar look to Pufnstuf if I remember rightly.

I liked it as a kid.
