A Harvey man shot his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend in the chest with a shotgun after the man forced his way into the couple's home on Sunday night (Oct. 11), authorities said. Douglas Moody, 31, of Belle Chasse, suffered wounds to his chest, neck and head, according to a Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office arrest report.

Moody's former girlfriend called 911 on Sunday about 11:15 p.m. and told operators that he had contacted her several times threatening to harm her and her new boyfriend. Moody – the father of her child -- told the woman he planned to drag her out of her house, kick her teeth in and kill her new boyfriend, the arrest report said.

She frantically called back in tears, crying. Within minutes, operators received another call, this time from the woman's new boyfriend. He told operators that he had just shot a man, according to the report.

Deputies arrived at the couple's residence in the 500 block of Second Avenue in Harvey and found Moody lying wounded on the front porch, the report said.

The woman, her new boyfriend and her daughter told deputies that Moody came to the house and immediately began fighting with former girlfriend's new beau. The unidentified man suffered an injury.

Douglas Moody, of Belle Chasse, was arrested and booked with home invasion and domestic abuse battery. He was shot after authorities say he attacked his former girlfriend's new boyfriend and forced his way into their harvey home. (JPSO)

I guess Moody is the moody type. That bad mood is going to get him killed. He lucky he wasn't shot with buck shot.

Wow. I wonder what kind of shotgun, and what loads, he was using.

If I had shot someone in the chest with the shotgun I [used to*] keep in my house for home defense, they would not have needed an ambulance ride.

See? Evolution works. The fittest survived and the gene pool will be stronger for it.

Properly placed birdshot will do the trick. Aim for the throat. Takes out the larynx and probably at least one major artery.

Sorry to learn of your Tragic Boating Accident earlier. How unfortunate.

Even at close range a load of bird shot will enter as basically one mass. Not to mention that a single pellet is enough to tear through an artery. The guy is lucky to be alive.

More importantly, a firearm saves one or two lives once again.

I don’t get how this SOB survived a shotgun blast to the chest, neck and face.

Yes. There was apparently a huge spike in Tragic Boating Accidents in late 2008, and I was one of the unfortunate victims.

In retrospect, attempting a night crossing of the deepest part of the Chesapeake Bay with my entire gun collection, in a shallow draft row boat, during a nor’easter, was probably not the wisest thing I’ve ever done, but you know what they say - hindsight is always 20-20...

Thanks!

I was wondering how you could lose all of your guns as a result of performing a Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz.

What a heartbreaking narrative.
I am so, so, so sorry to hear of it.
My situation is eerily similar.

My friends and I had our entire collection in an inflatable raft immediately above the Mariana Trench in 2008.
One pal was eating a PB&J sandwich (with the crusts cut off) when a wayward seagull accidentally poked a hole in our craft.
It was a total loss. All the firearms are now more than six miles below the surface of the frigid ocean waters.
Very sad day.

Yeah, it's tragic...I was fishing in the middle of Lake Superior a few years ago, and unfortunately all my guns spilled out as I was landing a sturgeon.

Sexual jealousy, fueled by our current way of life, is responsible for most “domestic violence”.

Look at his face, especially his mouth.

Mean sob written all over his face.

As soon as he is out of the hospital, he will be back and they will be lucky if they can kill him before he kills them.

Someone is doing something wrong if a guy can be arrested after having been shot in the chest.

He won’t be back for a long time with all the charges against him. He may be held without bail.

Mine just disintegrated into a pile of rust and melted plastic when I moved to FL and forgot to take into account the heat and humidity.

I sold mine to a friend of a friend. He and his buddy said they were moving to Brokeback Mountain, Montana.

I wished them well as they drove off, haven’t hear from them since.
