Its beginning to seem like Marty McFly may have been onto something.
The Cubs sure are an interesting team to watch. Nothing demonstrates that point more effectively than mad-hatter manager Joe Maddon calling for two suicide squeezes in the second inning on Saturday, en route to a 6-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Now, if youre like me, you wonder why this isnt always the play with a runner on third and fewer than two outs. Ive almost never seen it played correctly by opposing defenses, and isnt it more reliable than a fly ball to the outfield? But hey, theres a reason Im not an MLB manager at least one.
That said, when Marty jumped ahead in Back to the Future Part II, he spied a billboard congratulating the Cubs on a World Series victory. And after watching this plucky Cubs squad grab momentum and knot the series at 1 as it shifts to Chicago, that scene is beginning to look more like foresight that fantasy.

Where’s my damn hoverboard!
Or my Mr. Fusion Flying car!.....................
Right next to your Mr. Fusion.
TWELVE SECONDS!
Last time they won the series we nuked Japan.
An omen?
I may just have to put some money on the Cubbies.
And get that hover conversion done on my Volvo.
I didn’t know we had nukes in 1908....
They were in the World Series in 1945, but lost to Detroit.
The last time the Cubs won the World Series was 1908.
Some small trivia -— The Cubs are one of only a handful of National League teams to win consecutive World Series. But their victories were back in 1907 and 1908, long before all of our times here.
How about those Royals, looks like we may have another miracle reversal.
I would love to have The Cubs win and experience what we Red Sox fans did in 2004.
I cried, thinking of an uncle,a huge fan, who died regretting that he never saw the Sox win.
Good luck to The Cubs.
.
And they lost to the Padres in the NLCS, otherwise they’d have faced the Tigers in the 1984 series.
GO CUBS! ;’)
They won the NL pennant in 1945. They haven’t won a WS since 1908.................
I wouldn’t bet on it. Marty arrived in 2015 and learned of the Cubs winning the World Series on 10/21/15. The 2015 World Series will not have started, much less been decided, by that date.
Neither did Einstein.............
Well, the billboard was from the future as well..........B^)
Isn’t that what the Almanac says will happen?
It was congratulatory message on a billboard in his 2015 hometown..............
Meanwhile the Rangers are going to choke again.
