Upgrading To New Fios Quantum Router
Posted on 10/11/2015 6:29:21 PM PDT by silliessis
Has anyone switched from the Verizon Actiontec router to the new Quantum router?
I ask because I'd like to know if I can just change the hookups and be instantly connected?
Will I have to fight and set up a new password or any other technical changes?
(I always have problems whenever I change to new equipment, whether it's a pc or router)
This is a direct connection and no wifi will be involved.
It'd be great if I can just plug it in and go!
Thank You

Just make sure you TURN OFF YOUR WIRELESS SIGNAL when not in use. If you never use it, keep it turned off!

If your old router was connected by coax cable, they’ll have to run Cat5 for the new unit.

According to info at the link in post 2 the router can be connected to either coax or Cat5.

As I suspected .. It was a pain to get up and running!
I have no idea what the problem was or why it eventually started to work.
The connections are exactly the same, including the connection to the coax.
After connecting and turning the new quantum router on, it showed internet connected on the task bar but wouldn't connect to any web pages?
I unplugged the thing, powered back up and after that, I couldn't get any connection message at all? (No internet access)
I rebooted the thing .. same thing!
I got so frustrated that I went and watched tv for an hour, came back to change back to the old actiontec router and .. what do you know? The thing (router) had fixed itself!? Everything is working!!
For those that emailed me, thank you but it says that I am too new to use the reply function.
I am not unappreciative or ignoring your messages. 8)
Thank You everyone.

At least it's working -- sometimes things seem to happen on their own. ;-)
I've been on the Actiontec router for years. Last year it developed a habit of spontaneously rebooting multiple times a day... very aggravating when watching video on demand. That went on for a month or two and then cleared up. As of this morning it's been running continuously for 157 days. I never did find out what was causing it.
