The way I read it was that the Chinese President saw ‘naming the baby’ as a gesture of false intimacy, something many Americans are notorious for. We tend to be overfriendly, and share the details of our lives too readily with casual aquaintances.
He also may have seen this as Zuckerberg attempting to establish a bargaining chip for available for Mark’s future attempts at obtaining favor based on sentiment. It was not the right time or place for such unctuous behavior, and the Chinese President was not going to pretend otherwise.
Agree. It was awfully crass and forward of Zukerberg. Xi did right not getting pulled into that power play.
I would agree. In our family my the Matriarch of the Chinese half of my grandson’s family gave him his Chinese name. It is a family honor to be asked to name the baby and holds certain responsibilities. Zuckerberg was showing his ignorance of Chinese culture and was being inappropriate.
Excellent point.....and I believe yo are 100% correto
Zuckerberg proves in this inglorious faux pas that many rich smart kids lack common sense. This was not an intimate moment with a family member or very close friend, and thus he deserved the put down by the Chinese President.
