Scherzer is just the fifth pitcher in major-league history to pitch two no-hitters in a single season, and t/he first one in 42 years. (The last was Nolan Ryan, as the article said.)

His no-no was the seventh of the season in Major League Baseball, which ties the record for most no-hitters in a season.

Meanwhile here in Texas, the Rangers are in the midst of yet another epic collapse.

HOORAY Max (sheesh…the Tigers were minus some good pitching this year…Scherzer, Porcello, Price, Verlander (injured). I think they finished with worst E.R.A. in the American League. It’s no wonder they’ll finish in last place (from first to worst in the division.

CONGRATULATIONS Scherzer

I tuned in today at the top of the 8th.

First ball game all year to watch.

I’ll quote Pete Rose: WOW

The Red Sox have had a less than stellar year also.

This guy was pretty mediocre 4 seasons ago.

Worked really hard and it’s been paying off now three seasons in a row.

And MORE amazing, he struck out 9 of the last 10 batters, which is incredible figuring it was the 3rd time through the line up.

He took 2 other games into the 7th with no hitters and realistically could have had 5...

When you see him pitch every fifth day, you - at least I - come to appreciate him.

When they got him I didn’t like the deal nor his ‘attitude’ of stomping around the mound BUT it just proves the intensity he goes through.

15 hits this season, runs the bases well, pretty close to a real throwback pitcher..

Probably the second-best 9-inning game ever pitched (ignoring context, such as strength of opponent, game's meaningfulness, park effects, etc.), according to Game Scores, behind only Kerry Wood's 20-strikeout 1-hitter in 1998, supplanting Clayton Kershaw's 15-strikeout no-hitter last year. Wood's Game Score was 105, Scherzer's 104, Kershaw's 102.

his ‘attitude’ of stomping around the mound BUT it just proves the intensity he goes through

After each of his ninth-inning strikeouts tonight, while they were throwing the ball around the infield, he stomped nearly to second base.

There was no way Detroit would meet Scherzer’s pay demands, he turned down money that would work out to 800K per start ($24 million / year, and he’s been averaging an excellent 30 starts), maybe he wanted to play for the Skankies, not sure. Arm like that (with a statistics minor in college to go with it), I don’t blame him.

Starting in 2012 he began to have over 200 SO per season and his WHIP the last three seasons has been insane.

Changed his mechanics, whoever helped him is a genius.

He’s a bulldog on the mound (reminds me of Jack Morris as far as tenacity). His arm angle seems unique among RH pitchers, also.

Rangers blew it big time today. They’ve clinched at least a WC but are only 1 ahead of HOU for the division now.
