Most comedy series in general don't last very long on any network. Anyone remember what happened to "The Mindy Project"? By now most of us have seen the promo ads for "The Grandfathered" starring John Stamos. It was not funny or anything original to laugh at like we were during the Seinfeld years. So what do you want to give it? Two episodes before Donald Trump fired Stamos? Maybe Three? I think most viewers are no longer jumping up and down in sheer giddy over John Stamos.
You may not have liked it, but Mindy aired for 67 episodes over three years on FOX and has a deal for 26 more exclusively on Hulu. That’s 93 episodes. Hardly worth snorting at.
Why Some Low-Rated TV Shows Keep Getting Renewedtv-shows-keep-getting-renewed-164648

Mindy: A show that averaged just a 1.1 rating in adults 18-49 and a mere 2.3 million total viewers
I have tried to catch the new series that I thought might be interesting.
(1) Blindspot: Not bad, has possibilities
(2) Blood & Oil: Dallas in North Dakota, and Don Johnson is fun to watch.
(3) The Player, Not bad and good to see Wesley Snipes back.
(4) Minority Report: So So and not impressed.
Have not watched Quantico or The Grinder Yet.
Haven’t watched that once and it looks terrible.
I have seen parts of that show and it’s terrible and so is Black Ish.
The Mindy Project (I just looked it up - never watched the show) lasted 3 seasons and Hulu has picked up a 4th season.
Grandfathered might last 4 episodes.
Often, when the wife and I see trailers for new shows, we mention that we’ve probably seen the funniest stuff that will appear on the show in that trailer.
If that is true for grandfathered, yikes, the trailers are not funny in the slightest. And Stamos is, well, about as wooden an actor as a lawn ornament.
Will it have a “laugh track”?
I don’t watch anything with a laugh track.
I think Stamos plays for both teams.
Rap “music” is quite popular with a certain thuglife / hoodrat section of the populace as well. That does not mean I will surrender what levels of good taste I have acquired over the years and begin voluntarily listening to it any time soon -or watching T.M.P., either. I’ve seen better acting from Lee Majors. Or Mrs. Bill during one of her “re-inventing” interviews.
I’d sooner watch Mrs Obama starring in an episode of The Food Network’s cooking television programme.
In other words: Not Going To Happen.
I should point out as well that Star Trek: Voyager lasted for several seasons despite being mind-numbingly boring beyond words, whereas Firefly lasted a single season and gathered a huge fanbase straight off.
Not every renewed series on the telly is chosen to be so based upon its merits. Sometimes the network brass has an agenda to press.
Not every canceled programme is discontinued because it truly has nothing to recommend it. Behind-the-scenes politics is a fact of life and can occasionally override even a nascent series just beginning to develop its loyal fanbase.
Still say TMP is so boring it should be the recommended Rx for insomnia.
Strongly.
