Many thanks!!! I have not messed with restoring by boot images since 2009 when Windows 7 came out. I used to do it all the time with windows XP. The program was Norton Ghost which IIRC never put out a Windows 7 edition
Not quite.
But I attempted to upgrade yesterday. It wasn't successful. Now I get a "The Diagnostic Policy Service is not running" error when I try to fix my connectivity problems that have resulted from the failed install.
Trying to figure that one out.
I've been running Windows since before version 1 (there was a "Windows run-time" release that installed itself in order to run MicroGrafx In*A*Vision (a vector drawing and illustrating program that was capable of "semi-CAD" use...at least that is how I used it.).
But my experience with 8.0 and 10.0 doesn't match yours. I seriously hated 8.0 and went back to 7. Skipped 8.1. The machine running 7 started to give symptoms of "I'm gonna die soon", so I purchased a new Dell with 10 pre-installed.
The best thing I can say about 10.0 is that at least it is not 8.0, but I find it to be unreliable, and most of the apps pretty much unusable.
Yes, Macrium image file is just a file. You can copy it from/to USB flash or HD.
It’s best to install Macrium on your pc, create a Macrium boot disk and boot your pc with it.
It’s best to restore to original disk or equivalent disk.
Go to their site. It has many technical notes.

I am assuming the free edition Macrium is good enough for me purposes????
Thanks for all your help!
I use free edition all the time. Paid edition is good for servers and such.
