Yup! Tried a winbook on recommendation of Leo Laporte.
Worked fine but the micro USB port was VERY poorly attached. Ended up sending it back. Looking at a better, beefierone now. Heck I’d consider an orphan W-RT tablet now because they are so cheap.
BTW almost bought Mrs p6 an Apple phone and pad a couple of months ago but since she is still working for a large company the change of OS would probably overwhelm her. She had trouble adjusting to a mouse vs keyboard long ago!
LOL! You nailed it!
Lol!!!!! Right on the money!!!
W10 has a few issues, but none that are currently those being pushed by the tech weenies.
Myth one, privacy. There are ways to significantly improve privacy issues with the settings in edge and IE. For the most part even with out change this is a non issue.
2 installation problems, RTFM. If you prep your system for upgrade, and not just try to upgrade willie nille its very unlikely it will fail. That said depending on the age of your system, the system can black screen for 3-5 hours as stuff gets upgraded. You need to look at the hard drive led to see if the system is truly stuck or still working.
3 but you may lose all your stuff, actually related to 1&2 anyone who doesn’t offload their files to a usb drive prior to upgrade deserves to lose said files. Backup people just get it done. that said the data is saved in windows.old
4 you can’t choose not to install security updates. And that’s bad why??? Being less hackable is bad how? There are scenarios where this is an issue but they are in larger organizations running custom software.
Now why your a troglodyte if you don’t upgrade.
If your running a post xp computer its almost certain not only can you upgrade but you system will be better and faster. W10 can run on really old hardware 1ghz cpu, 1 gb of memory, you won’t want to do it but its possible. There are stripped version for specific uses that will run better.
The self healing attributes are amazing. One client dell W7 was a continuous problem, put W10 on a few months before the official launch and have not made a house call since.
W10 merges the tablet and desktop os with giving phone the same kernel. Why do you care? in ‘17 the phone os will merge as well, so anyone upgrading computers or phones needs to decided if it makes sense. Since by 2018 your watch/phone will be the guts running your computer, tv, laptop. Storage will be cloud and likely you’ll no longer have a home phone, cable package or even wired internet. G5 is just beginning to be deployed in Korea and its as fast as fiber. scales to the application and since the infrastructure is much less expensive then wire, total corporate cost will be much less, thus only high security required organizations will have wired access.

Hah, jokes on you, I run a triple boot system..Ubuntu, Windows 7, and Knoppix.
hahahahaha...
oh, wait, I sort of proved your point..Never mind, then.
Here are the most common things I have done for years almost in my sleep, with no problem; that I can not do in my Windows 10 install.
1. Find the equivalent of File/Print
2. Find the equivalent of Print/Preview.
3. Check if I can use any of my printers.
4. Save a web page, say a "page" of this thread, to my hard drive.
5. Save a PDF.
6. Use my printers/scanners.
7. I haven't had the patience to find and try Windows explorer.
8. I haven't found a web browser That is familiar (Internet Explorer 11?)
I short I converted my Windows 7 Pro desktop into an imitation desktop computer.
Not a happy camper.
Get LibreOffice. It is free.
An example if you are sharing a file with someone who has Office and it is a Word doc then save the LibreOffice file as a Word doc 2007-2013
You can edit the doc in either program and it will look the same and print the same. Much help at Youtube. Hint: in LibreOffice you create a table or tables then insert a frame around it so you can move it around easily. I saved you much headache there : )

I just got a cheap Windows tablet with 8.1 that I immediately upgraded to 10. Performance is not adequate for what I intended (no surprise as it’s a 32-bit with just 1GB of RAM) but with a bluetooth keyboard & mouse it is fine for most home users and comes in for less than $150. I do the occasional DJ gig and the Android DJ apps really suck, so a more robust Windows tablet would be a lot more convenient than schlepping around a laptop. From what I’ve seen on the market a Windows tablet in the $300 range would fit the bill nicely.
Wordpad is still there, and most new PCs today come with either the stripped-down Office (Word & Excel only) or a year of Office 365.
Yes it will so it’s best to image the drive first using a tool like Acronis. Also, after upgrading you have the option of rolling back to Windows 8 within one month (did so successfully while evaluating the Preview version) an the rollback restores the Win8 recovery partition.
I'm running it on a tablet with 1GB RAM and a 1.4GHz Atom and it's more than adequate for most stuff, only issue is multitasking but I got a helluva lot of computer for just $150 Canadian, even included a bluetooth keyboard.
If you’re happy with it, why complain about it. Oh, that’s right you’re just brushing up your microsoft fanboy bonafides. Never mind.
did that system come W10 or did you upgrade? And dam $150cd who needs multi tasking, at that price grab up a few more for other tasks.
I’m not complaining about W10. What I’m pointing out is that OTHER people advise me to switch to Apple or Linux but they don’t work for me or mrs p6.
Another thing that is very noticeable is that Apple, Linux people always seem to be complaining about MS. WHY?
As far as fanboy I stuck with Tandy Deskmate...more of a GUI...when W95 came out. Didn’t start using Windows until W98. Since then Windows has been fine for us at work and at home. I see no advantage to changing to another OS>
To each their own.
Oh, man, I just ride in 'em ... I don't know what makes 'em work.
I’m the same. Loved Windows 7 but 8.1 sucked giant monkey balls. Upgraded the desktop and my son’s laptop to 10 and we both like it much, much better. It has the Windows 7 feel again, but I like being able to mess around with the app function.
Absolutely. Personally, I'm glad that there are alternatives for consumers to choose, though from a security standpoint I wish that one particular vendor didn't have as much of a lock on the desktop. Monocultures are security nightmares.
For me personally, MS-Windows doesn't suit the way I work. I need more flexibilty and prefer the way that Linux lets me do things the way I want to, rather than forcing my work habits to meet someone else's idea of how things should be.
To your original point though, about weather stations, I did a search for "raspberry pi weather station" and found a bunch of really cool setups. Might just do one of those myself.
Where do you store the image? On an external hard drive I assume
Cannot record under W/10 pro. It was working under W.8.1 but after upgrade to 10 it stopped working in tow motherboards. Including with a brand new mic as well as my old one, and via the standard jack as well as a USB sound card. And even if i turn up the mic vol. and boost all the way.
It will show it hears some sound (under Set up microphone) if i blow into the mic (and therefore it passes the test), but for speaking it does not.
Therefore the speech to text software is useless.
This has occurred into two computers, and under new installs, and Device manager shows no problems, and Troubleshooting solves nothing.
