By now many of you have no doubt seen the viral video “I’m a Christian, but…” (click the image above to view it). Not only has the video been making the rounds, but the hashtag #IAmAChristianBut is ubiquitous on social media right now. After you watch the video, it’s obvious that this is a propaganda piece for a version of Christianity that is Christian in name only–a progressivist vision of the faith that has more to do with maintaining street-cred with Christianity’s cultured despisers than with the faith once for all delivered to the saints (Jude 3). It is what the apostle Paul called a “form of godliness” while “denying its power” (2 Timothy 3:5). It is gutless–literally, a hollowing out of everything essential to the faith.
Far from being Christocentric, this display is Christo-absent. Not one of these “Christians” even mentions Jesus. Their definition of the faith displays no connection even implicitly to the “author and perfecter of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2). Even disinterested observers can tell that this is more than a glaring oversight. It is an attempt to label love for worldliness as love for Christ. It undermines any credible claim that these testimonials can be in any sense authentically Christian. And indeed, the substance of their testimony is this...

I weep for these children. They are merely parroting what their false Christian teachers and leaders like Pope Francis, Rick Warren, Joel Osteen, and countless others have taught them. A good definition of Pope Francis. He seems more interested
in appeasing the “despisers” rather than people of faith
and God himself.
The formula could be used equally well for a clarification — to distinguish what really is of faith in Christ Jesus as opposed to what is of religion — as it could for a bastardization. One big problem is that the way the faith is lived is ALREADY highly bastardized today. In a sense, Western Christendom is a victim of its own external success. Like an impressive looking tree that rotted out from the inside in increasing hollowness till it tottered and became ready to fall, so has our superficial faith become. There is no shortcut but to rediscover the love of Christ Jesus personally.

I agree. What love is there is someone’s departure to hell? Wouldn’t warning them be the loving thing to do? Especially when someone loved them SO much He died for them!!! (to be set free from this perversion)

I’ve heard it so much, I truly believe those people are exactly that..... A CHRISTIAN BUT.
ie. the tail end of Christianity.

I mean Jesus really IS the real McCoy, and if Christian efforts at devotion to His love were more earnest, they would be able to uncover the evidence that proves it is so, both to themselves and to the world.
The problem is what is going on in a lot of churches ain’t faith in Christ so much as it is religion. Religion you can get anywhere. Even the world can come up with religion. The world can give you its own version of hell fire warnings, even. The love of Christ can never be equaled. THAT is the disambiguator.
